September Ratings

Unread post by Greg Buben »

The September ratings came out and B-93 is number one once again with a 8.7% share. WGRD came in second with a 6.1& share. WCSG came in
third with a 5.9% share. The top three generally are in the top three although the order may vary each month. WOOD was 4th with a 5.4% share.
WLAV was 5th with a 5.3% share. All of the top five went up slightly with their shares while WSNX, WKLQ, and STAR 105.7 FM the next three went
down slightly but remain in respectable positions.

On my post I was brief and I only gave the facts regarding the September Nielsen ratings. I gave no commentary and I got no responses so now I will
offer my commentary. First of all the top three stations always seem to remain the top three stations although the order of them varies each month.
This month it is B-93, WGRD, and WCSG. The second thing is that I-Heart continues to dominate the market with four stations in the top ten and
that includes B-93, WOOD, WSNX, and STAR 105.7 FM. The third thing is that WGRD was the only Town Square station to make the top ten by
coming in second with a 6.1% share. The fourth thing is that Cumulus had two stations in the top ten with WLAV coming in fifth with a 5.3% share
and WKLQ in seventh place back down to a 3.1% share. I do believe that the big three companies who own almost all of the commercial stations
should flip some of them before the holiday season or else readjust the rest of them. In the case of "The River" they probably would have to make
adjustments after Christmas because soon "The River" as well as "STAR 105.7 FM will go all Christmas music. Which reminds me who will go
all Christmas first this year between "The River" and STAR 105.7 FM. Usually one or the other will start it November i the day after Halloween.

My wife absolutely cannot wait for this to happen. LOL!

I’m convinced “Greg Buben” is a chatbot.

Very limited information that never changes, repeated over and over in numerous threads.

On the off chance you are a real person, Greg…the reason you don’t usually get replies is because we’ve heard this same opinion/info from you AT LEAST 25 times. Come up with something new every once in a while.

You know the definition of insanity, right?

As to The Painted Horse's challenge of Greg's reality, it can be solved with the typing of nine characters into a search engine. I knew he was with WGVU, on air with their FM, defining that he presents Friday and Saturday nights with that incredibly quick exercise.

He is focused in his messaging, no doubt. Pining for big action from big corporations owning too many stations may just be an exercise in futility.

Nothing substantial is going to ever change in this market until the day of Armageddon. No one's interested in actually trying to win. It's the same pageant show month after month. Tweaks may be made, but we're riding this configuration into oblivion...

I can assure you that Greg Buben is indeed a real person. I've known Greg for over 40 years and worked with him at WYCE and WGVU. He is one of the most passionate people about the radio business that I've ever met.

In response to the posts of The Painted Horse, The Trophyhead, and JayWMI this is for you guys. I can concede I have repeated myself on some things
when talking about the ratings and the G.R. marketplace but your responses are lame. I don't personally know you guys, your radio experiences, nor
if you live in the G.R. market which consists of Kent and Ottawa Counties. You can criticize my repetition which is based on the lack of any significant
changes in the marketplace but you could also balance the criticism with some interesting things to say. For instance, B-93 is the number one station
in the market and it always makes the top three each month. Perhaps you can say what you like and dislike about B-93 and why you think they are
the success that they are. Another thing you can comment on is why the number two station WGRD is the most liked rock station in the market. I'll
use the number three station as an example you can comment on why Christians prefer WCSG over other Christian stations. You can say what you
like and dislike about any of the other stations and what you would do if you had control. Nothing in the world is more fun than talking about radio
especially in the G.R. market. Sharing ideas is what makes The Buzzboard interesting and after all it's fun hearing the likes and dislikes of people
when it comes to radio. If you guys want to criticize the repetition of my past comments you really should have a response that sounds like your
wanting to have an online conversation with knowledge of the G.R. marketplace. What do you guys like and/or dislike in the market?

My only criticism is why do you format your posts like this with hard line breaks after each line? It makes it annoying to read. Paragraphs and proper sentence structure works wonders!

In response to the lame response from Craig Russell if I read your brief response (which wasn't much) than I'm on the Internet. I told you on an earlier
post that I met you when you were on WFGR, I thought you were good on the radio, and that you seemed like a nice guy. I believe that you are capa-
ble of having good posts on the Grand Rapids radio market. Perhaps you can say something about WFGR now that you no longer work there.

Why do you keep ignoring everyone's request to fix the line break issues in your posts?

Are you hitting the enter key manually between each line? If so, that's unnecessary.

This example right here... are you hitting "enter" after each line in the text area input? If so, STOP! It's not a typewriter.

I don't think Greg is ignoring your suggestions. Knowing him like I do, I believe he doesn't quite comprehend what you guys are talking about. Frankly I'm not sure myself what you guys are talking about. His posts on my computer look the exact same as mine or all the other posts. Of course, I am an old school non computer nerd and maybe there is something in his posts that I can't see or comprehend. Maybe you computer guys on this board can enlighten me and Greg.

He is hitting the enter key on his keyboard to force an ending to each line of text instead of allowing the software to do that job automatically.

The end result is a choppy presentation of the text within his posts depending on the screen dimensions one is using to view his posts.
