Sexual abuse is far the most prevalent at the home. Logic only dictates that "Home Schooling Rapes The Most Children" would be also true.

Then there's the Catholic Church... The absolute Champion when it comes to harming children....

How do we keep kids safe when the adults we trust to guide us are rapey?

The state of Michigan has the worst track record of any state in the union when it comes to protecting children from physical or sexual abuse.

CPS is a complete and utter failure of an agency, in part due to inaction by our legislature.
Trump is too stupid to know what "reciprocal" means.

Agreed, it is a serious issue. My examples are from this year at public schools in Michigan alone. That doesn't count the ones swept under the rug or not reported. Perhaps it's time for government to face the same music the Catholic Church did, seeing as how it's rampant in government run schools.

Hell, one of my examples featured a high profile Democrat who convinced the school to readmit her rapist son after he served a suspension for raping a classmate. How shocking then that government abuse gets swept under the rug.

I hate to say this but… ya know… if it’s this common and everywhere that says something about human beings in general and that maybe the standards and norms we have are needing to be revisited. Shouting from the rooftops about pedophiles seems ineffective.

Are you advocating for normalizing sexual relations between teachers and students, adults and children? Or chalking up rape and molestation as normal behavior to be tolerated? Because that's what it sounds like.

It's going to be prevalent in anyplace where the proper protections are in place and you are trusting people to keep your child(ren) safe with an unchecked power dynamic.

Well exactly and for someone to suggest I am advocating for the normalizing of molestation is rather low. I am merely suggesting there must be some sort of different approach to the problem that can get people to not do it or something. Clearly there is a subset of the population that will do it and clearly “don’t do that or you’ll go to the clink!” Is not exactly making folks think twice. So on the contrary… I’m trying to find a better way to REDUCE IT.

For whatever it’s worth the fact that we criminalize this now IS an improvement. Kids marrying at 14 or whatever used to be much less a problem for society the farther you go back. So it stands to reason someone fiddling with them wasn’t so crazy either at one time.

For some reason the OP was trying to single out only one place where these things happen, as if the Catholic Church isn't the worst place you could take a child. Of course other churches have this threat, but not to the magnitude and with the same arrogance that the Catholic Church has responded.

And for some reason, you keep bumping the Catholic priest thread because no one is taking your bait, and your anti-Catholic bigotry is getting the best of you.

Glad to see the police are going after these creeps.

Matt, to my point, how many Catholic Church leaders have been charged? They are merely paying fines once vigorously sued. No one is above the law.

From the LA settlement story
Some of those priests, after undergoing treatment at residential centers, were shuffled to new parishes, frequently in immigrant neighborhoods where the abuse would continue.

With the latest settlements, the number of people alleging abuse now stands at nearly 2,500.

At least 973 Native American children killed by government schools (number is most likely higher), countless others physically, emotionally, and sexually abused.

I hope the government is vigorously sued. No one is above the law.
