WRQN takes a nose dive in latest Nielsen AQH share results

Unread post by MWmetalhead »

I cannot recall the last time their AQH share was so low:

A very nice showing for Kiss FM, though, who is wiping the floor clean with the pathetic Q105.

Yikes, RQN is usually one of the few things Cumulus can hang its hat on besides K100. Guess having an extremely repetitive playlist often redundant with XKR is finally hurting them. It certainly couldn't be people finally being tired of Denny and Johny!

At least the Buckeyes season starting almost got the Ticket up to an entire whole point!

Other than that, K100, Kiss, IOT, the River. Branding wins out even though it's almost all out of town off the bird now.

WRQN still has decent jocks and overall presentation, but the playlist is so repetitive and stale at times. I think they could go slightly more deeper with the 80's instead of the same safe songs. WRQN had a slightly different selection of 80s hits back 10-13 years ago. For the 70s at 7 and the 80s at 8 hours, they do add more songs from those decades that they don't play during other dayparts.

WIOT sounds stale again too. Seems like I hear some of the same songs every time I tune in, and now with semi-local Scott Miller out, there's not a single local jock left. What a fall from what was once a proud station tailored to Toledo. I don't know why Scott Sands could at least voicetrack a daypart, at least you'd have somebody local there.

The last time WIOT didn't sound stale was probably six or seven years ago.

WIOT's playlist is now entirely iHeart controlled as well, so it's probably the exact same playlist in other markets too.

I don't even bother with IOT anymore. There's no point. I can just make a YouTube playlist starting with Whitesnake. I'm good.

Understatement of the year. Probably closer to sixteen or seventeen years.

At least back then Kramer (who was better than Miller) and Aimee (who was made fun of but at least was local) were there.

Really the last time I cared for IOT was back in the early 2010s when whatever national ifart playlist they had steered towards harder newer music. But God forbid Toledoans not hear Bon Jovi and Motley Crue two out of every three songs so they went back to 80's butt rock

It would help if WRQN did not try to be everything to everyone. WRQN sharing titles with WXKR is not a good thing. That station steps on all of the stations in the market including their own. The listeners are finally catching up to the mess that is on the air.

Also, The Denny Schaffer show hasn’t changed since the 90s it’s the same schlock for years. It’s exhausting.

Very true. If you're not a Top 40 station in 1984 you shouldn't be playing Van Halen next to Michael Jackson and Prince.

Ratings wise where does Denny and company stand? The last time I heard WRQN the playlist was extremely tight, even by corporate radio standards.
Set preset button 1 to 94.7fm... Everyone's making the switch to 94.7...

WRQN has always shared titles with WXKR since being under Cumulus ownership. When WRQN was still 60's and 70's mainly, they played some of the same Beatles, Stones, Doors, Janis, Steve Miller, Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, and Supertramp songs. WXKR eventually got harder and no longer played any of the Doobies or Steely Dan's hits. I don't mind some of the more pop-oriented guitar tracks, such as those by Mellencamp or Fleetwood Mac, but just don't think Van Halen or GNR works well when being played next to Elton or Jimmy Buffett. MW said a while back that if WXKR wants listeners to flip to another station, they'd want WRQN. I'm not sure about Denny's ratings.

I like stations that have an eclectic mix like your Jack FM's, but I'm not that sure if average listeners like them.

I liked when WIOT had the 2012 playlist of newer and harder rock, and I still enjoyed that they kept the Zeppelin and Doors among other classic artists as a way to honor the station's heritage.

Um? Johnny D at night is doing the same schtick he has for years. Denny Schaffer is played out, and Becky sounds like she is yelling at a cashier for something she did wrong.
