On the question of switching out anchors, if that is something even being considered, it should be done in conjunction with a full reboot. Roll out a new set, new anchors, a proper weathercast (i.e. one that utilizes something larger than a 65" monitor), and new features all at once.
Otherwise, they'd be doing little more than rearranging deck chairs.
I wouldn't list the news anchors as even a top 3 issue for them. Content procurement / story selection & placement and the overall visual "look" of the newscasts are much bigger issues, in my opinion.
The thing is, I do think an actual brand new set is coming sooner rather than later. Remember when I said that WWJ is going to be like WBBM? It’s coming, at least visually.
The set can wait - viewers don’t care about a set.
They definitely need a stronger male for the afternoon and 6 PM shows.
You could easily move Terrance Friday to anchor the weekends and report on the 11 PM during the weekday.
The weekend anchors are so bad.
They also need a total revamp of the talent on mornings.
I know this thread is about CBS Detroit and how to fix them. And while I think they far and away have the worst set of a major market news operation I've ever seen, I can't get over Local 4's new table that their anchors sit at.
Why did Local 4 decide to buy a glass coffee table from the Gardner White Clearance Center and use it as their news set? Did Graham Media see one of those Gardner White Columbus Day Sales advertisements and think they could get a good deal?

It’s official - Jennifer Lyons has moved CBS Chicago to 4th place in the market.
That’s what she did in the over two years there.
Now CBS wants her to part-time babysit Detroit.
Makes you wonder how invested top brass is to the station

What they needed to do from the beginning is to sign big names. Few are going to flip the channel to watch a bunch of people they've never heard of.
I agree with you 100%. But nowadays, talent is staying where they’re at. It’s all about job security. I think what also kept people from jumping over to CBS is that the ND and AND were no names with ZERO leadership experience.
Does anybody here really know CBS’ expectations going in? I highly doubt they expected half of the market to switch channels. Winning the ratings game would be great of course, but I suspect they had some other goals.
First off, Detroit is still a large market so anything to help as a lead in to CBS Mornings, Evening News, and The Late Show would be beneficial to the network. It’s hard for a network to gain viewers when there’s no local product. Nobody is going to change the channel from 4 to 62 at 7am to watch their morning show.
Also a H*** focus is in their streaming side. I personally cut my cable (like many others) years ago. Even though I don’t even live in the Detroit market, I find myself watching their news on Pluto a lot. The other stations have gotten on board with the streaming side, but CBS is definitely the pioneer there.
Lastly, they can broadcast local news over the air and save on syndication and take in all of the ad revenue.
If this is what CBS was going for, there’s really no reason to fork over tons of money to bring on a well known personality. So long as the newsroom team can put out a decent product everyday, I’m sure the network is happy.
Ya know, I'm somewhat attractive, have media experience, have always wanted to do news...maybe I should send in a tape. Can't be much worse than what's happening lately with local news...
