Fixing CBS Detroit
I think the first thing they should do is rebuild the anchor teams and reporting staff.
You can easily expect any talent that was hired by the old management crew will be replaced.
There’s also a good chance with new ownership next year the station could see it a new general manager and news director.

It’s possible that Graham, Laudien will be replaced. Neither imo, are major market material. I can see them hiring talent from other CBS O&O.
They already hired a new news director. Lyons will probably be here until next year when they find a permanent GM.
Lyons imo, is going to make CBS Detroit similar to CBS Chicago.

I feel like Graham was much stronger back when she was in Flint. I also think her delivery is much more suited for mornings.

Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
It was stupid to put in a local news department. It didn't work. Close it down.
Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
Too much news for a time when people get their news from their phone. They should've done this 15 years ago before social media. Only us on this site watch TV news.
Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
I get that CBS Detroit has issues, but some of the comments here are just downright hateful and mean spirited. Wanting them to close it down? I think that’s way out of pocket.
Lyons is just getting started in cleaning up this mess and all of us just need to be patient. For starters, some of the recent reporter hires, like the one they just made, has actually been good. They just hired someone from WZZM. Next will be the anchors. Patience is key everyone!!

She can't make WBBM do a thing. Why should we believe in this person?GS3580 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 11:52 pm I get that CBS Detroit has issues, but some of the comments here are just downright hateful and mean spirited. Wanting them to close it down? I think that’s way out of pocket.

How is revenue? I see lots of opinions but how are ad sales since running syndicated programs instead of local news?
283,000,000 Americans didn't vote for Trump.

Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
It’s always cheaper to do a newscast over buying syndication to fill up time.
All stations are in the middle of layoffs and budget cuts because all that ad revenue from the election is about to come to an end.
Plus CBS Needs to look lean as the new ownership takes over. The game right now is every manager is in survival mode.
I do agree with the earlier post that Detroit can’t afford a part-time GM.
The newscasts under Lyons in Chicago have dropped to fourth place. The demo ranges from zeroes to .8.
It’s hard to see Detroit ever gaining ground on the competition in the market.

Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
There’s no denying that 62 was a hot mess and it needed to be fixed. One can say it was growing pains. One can say that it wasn’t built right. Regardless of the reason, something had to be done. I’m just glad that CBS stepped in.
I don’t think tearing it down is the answer at all. I think Paul and Lisa had to be replaced. Neither were built to run an actual newsroom. They brought in people who fortunately are. It looks like they are in the beginning stages of addressing the talent level, at least with the reporters. However, the overall process will just take time. We might not see a major anchor shakeup until long after the election. This is why I said to have patience. Looking at this neither as a fan or as a hater. Just as an observer.
Thr newsroom itself has a lot of potential. However, the concept just needs to change, that’s all. I wish them all the best.

Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
As far as a full time GM, that might come next year. I really do think Lyons is just there to clean house and that’s it.
Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
As for your earlier post about the anchors, I feel the November sweeps will determine if they will hire a new lead anchor to co anchor with Shauna Humphries or will stick with Friday. I love Terrence Friday. I think he’s done a fantastic job on doing both Middays and Evenings. He’s not only major market material, he’s far exceeded my expectations. I think he is great wherever he’s on at 11 pm but again, ratings determine everything. I also think they will eventually move Sandra Ali to middays. She’s a very strong anchor and she definitely deserves a promotion.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 5:06 am I bet she devotes close to two thirds of her time to channel 2 in Chicago.
A part-time GM is not what channel 62 needs.

Isn’t Ali on in mornings? I would think noon wouldn’t be a promotion…GS3580 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:00 amAs for your earlier post about the anchors, I feel the November sweeps will determine if they will hire a new lead anchor to co anchor with Shauna Humphries or will stick with Friday. Re: Fixing CBS Detroit
Middays isnt a promotion. Mornings and night are the top jobs. And yes, Ali is a great anchor, but she needs to address her look. The weird over-tanning and blond hair is bizarre.
