Kroger eggs are cheaper because they are not necessarily cage free. They have an 18 egg carton on sale for $1.99 right now with digital coupon.
Cage free and organic are not mainstream eggs. It’s like complaining a Buick or a Mercedes aren’t Chevrolet priced.

You’re partly paying for the extra perk of cage free or organic. If you just want regular eggs you can get them for real cheap in a value pack and it may be right around $2 or less for a dozen. The chicken didn’t care where it was hanging out when it made the egg and the difference is frankly minimal.

If you do go pay the extra for cage free or organic you are partially falling for marketing manipulation the same way they say dog food is delicious or mouth watering. The damn dog will eat nearly anything and doesn’t care. But delicious and mouth watering sound good to the human buying it. Cage free or organic sound healthier but in theory should be cheaper to produce but they can Jack up the price on you and claim it’s healthier and whatever else.

Meijer only sells cage free eggs under its private label these days.

Kroger had committed to go 100 percent cage free by 2025, but I'm reading they're now having second thoughts.
Interesting. So they force your Chevrolet egg to have leather seats and a sunroof. I’m actually about to go to Meijer as chance would have it… I wonder if they sell any bargain priced eggs at all private label or no.

Regular price of Kroger brand dozen large eggs at the store right up the road from Meijer just happens to be $2.89 as well.
Those were indeed the cheapest I could find.

Meanwhile, out in the sticks..
Eggs are at 3.00 a dozen, say what you want RT, they are larger, with a much more colorful yolk, and they still taste like an egg should.

My point wasn’t which was better, it was trying to get the cheapest egg possible. You are paying some extra amount for the larger egg with the colorful yolk that tastes like an egg should. That was my point. So before folks complain they need to accept that part of it going in.

At least there’s a way to get them for 2 bucks. Although the carton is a Buck otherwise. Can’t win.

You could always take your own basket, but you would need more than one. You can't put all your eggs in one basket.
