Stand up guy Just bought more than 200 radio stations.
It's a great day for radio! Did anyone see the recent acquisition made by George Soros? Super exciting... For those of you who don't know who Soros is, he made waves in the '90s when he started funding some notable organizations like Media Matters, Jewish Voice for Peace, and he is a top donor to the Democratic Party (https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4927730/ ... orge-soros).
We owe Soros a debt of gratitude; he was one of the top donors in Bill Clinton's first campaign. The radio industry—personalities, programmers, sellers, etc.—has not had a day this good since the Telecommunications Act of 1996 which was passed by Clinton, which made it possible for well-meaning corporations to buy up many signals in one market. Love to see a guy like Soros buy so many signals in America, just makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy.
I can hear all those stupid brainwashed conspiracy theorists complain now... but they just don't get it.

Not confirmed but likely on it's way. You should hear the status quo complaining.

Totally agree... Both George HW and Bill Clinton had our best interests in mind throughout their entire presidencies. How can you call into question the motives of a guy like HW? At the time, he was the best man for the job and his time as the head of the CIA gave him the experience needed to lead the free world.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 4:13 pm There's not a chance in hell George H.W. Bush would've vetoed that 1996 legislation had he been reelected.
I am curious though, what prompted you to bring up George HW Bush? This is a thread that is about radio and media, not republicans and democrats.

It was signed in late summer, 1996. Bush would have been nearing the end of his second term.Autoblemike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 4:20 pmTotally agree... I agree, the outcome would have been no different in the imagery scenario that HW was president. If we are using make believe to prove our points, I’ll continue with that… it would have been no different if it was Bush jr., Obama, Biden, Romney, etc… My point wasn’t to make this a republication vs. democrat pissing match.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 6:21 pmOnly to point out the outcome would have been no different.Autoblemike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 4:20 pmTotally agree... You inferred Clinton only signed the law because of Soros money. It may very well have proven pivotal, in Clinton's case.

That sneaky bastard, backing a policy 28 years ago so that he could capitalize on it now when he's 94.

He's an American hero. Hopefully these ultra conservative talk shows will go away. Radio has been in decline since Randy Michaels brought these idiots to the airwaves.

Not that I disagree, but I am intrigued by why you thought you were hitting a home run by resurrecting an old post that hadn't had a comment in over a month in order to contribute that gem.

Re: Stand up guy Just bought more than 200 radio stations.
To be an American hero, wouldn't you have to be... I don't know... American? Also, you are using the term hero pretty loosely, a rich guy spends money=hero. Also, do you have the ability to realize your own bias?
I don't think there is any dispute that Soros Funds left wing institutions like media matters, left wing politics cause etc. Not that I am taking a moral stance on whether that is right or wrong, it is just a fact. He also funds many campaigns (national and local) around the country, and purchasing 200 radio stations it is clear that he is continuing his left wing ideology. Again, not that it is right or wrong, it is what it is.
How is it a good thing TC, make constative talk shows "go away?" Isn't it healthy to have a health dose of opposing opinions? People on the left some really great points, and people on the right have great points. Extremists on both sides (based on that comment i am guessing that you are one of them) are what is causing all of this mess and division. Making groups of people "go away" seems like slippery and seems like dangerous rhetoric. Respectfully, I urge you think through that.
No one group should "Go away," that is absurd but people should strive to have a shift in personal perspective, and understand one another. My original post was sarcastic, I am not at all a fan of Soros Buying our radio waves (or big business for that matter)... even though radio is dying, I would like to see them owned by local operators... a pipe dream.
Re: Stand up guy Just bought more than 200 radio stations.
Are there any radio shows to balance the crazy stuff being offered by the radical conservative talkers? No?
Look at the owners of Fox with their political agenda. No difference.
It's his money, cry about it if you must, I'll be celebrating.

Re: Stand up guy Just bought more than 200 radio stations.
TC, with your left-wing point of view, wouldn't be happier if they did away with "freedom of speech"?
Just for the record, what shows are you considering "radical conservative" shows? I'm just curious.
You mentioned Fox, but what are your thoughts about MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, and of course PBS? Do you consider them radical ultra liberal networks?
