Interesting… does he have any major stations that are successful in the ratings? I see he has WJRT in Flint and got it from ABC… I don’t know if their product is any good or anything about ratings for it though..MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 1:34 pm His company is privately held, so no financial data is available.

People like their chief meteorologist (Denis Phillips) for his hurricane coverage. Otherwise, it's another Scripps product.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 9:14 am It might not be a crown jewel, but I bet it is one of their top 2 billing stations.
WFTS in Tampa is a dog.

I usually watch Fox 13 and WFLA in the evening when I'm in Florida.
Re: Is WXYZ Selling?
That would make me skeptical that they would know how to manage a large market station the right way. The best buyer would be ABC… their stations tend to be well run tight ships. Whether that makes business sense or not is another matter.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 5:23 pmhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_Media_GroupRate This wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 1:39 pmInteresting… does he have any major stations that are successful in the ratings? Tucson and Honolulu appear to be the largest DMAs.
He does have quite a few ABC affiliates.

Well… you have a point… how much worse could it be?
If they take some of the corporate mandated silliness away that would be a good start.

Re: Is WXYZ Selling?
So is this selling the underlying property and then paying a lease on the place while business as usual continues?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 9:17 am My sale-leaseback theory has merit:

I am inclined to believe the company when they say the WXYZ license and IP is not for sale.
If by "facility" they mean Broadcast House, I think they are full of crap. I suspect they are indeed considering a sale-leaseback listing.
I will say that building was built in 1959 so at some point it needs things done to it.

Re: Is WXYZ Selling?
Point of information - Allen Media Group purchased WJRT from Gray Television in 2014 not ABC. ABC sold back WJRT to SJL in 2010.Rate This wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 1:39 pmInteresting… does he have any major stations that are successful in the ratings? Re: Is WXYZ Selling?
Mr. Adell said the Byron Allen deal fell through because he couldn’t get the financing, so Plan “B” is to sell the buildings in Detroit and Phoenix and do a sale - leaseback. Eventually they will do a sale - leaseback of their towers too.
Re: Is WXYZ Selling?
I don't see Scrips selling WXYZ looks like there selling the buildings. And I don't see ABC/Disney buying TV stations there content with what they have.
Go Pistons, Let's Go Redwings.
Re: Is WXYZ Selling?
ABC has wanted WXYZ back for a long time, IMO. If Scripps sells and its a good possibility they might with the bad financial direction they are headed, look to Disney to buy it.
