The cause was worldwide corporate greed spawned in the wake of COVID. Add to that the Russian invasion of Ukraine which rose grain prices because Ukraine could barely export it. Putin also caused energy prices to increase by restricting access to the natural gas pipeline. The solution? We can start by electing a leader that will break up the conglomerates. We can also investigate the oligarchs hiding offshore assets.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:14 amI assume you think you have a whole brain. But in the end economists and charts don't pick the president, people do.
If people think the cost of living has greatly out paced their pay check they will blame somebody, fair or not.
Some guy building a bunch of houses doesn't impress somebody who can't afford to buy one.
Never mind that American voters don't care about worldwide inflation. They care about their personal cost of living vs their personal paycheck. If they perceive a problem they will vent their frustrations in the voting process.
And even people with less than "half a brain" are allowed to vote.

They/them, non-binary and proud.
NEVER EVER COMPLY WITH FASCISM!!!
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

What conglomerates do you want to break up?
Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
I would imagine at least the 30 Dow companies… lots of the multinationals are comprised of hundreds of smaller companies. It’s bad for competition and employment and a number of other things when only 1 or 2 or 3 companies are in an industry.
So ConAgra, General Mills, Kroger, Exxon Mobil, the 7 major railroads, you’re looking at sectors where concentration is rampant.

I guess I should have clarified I was asking MCRF since he authored the post.
In any case your list reads like a "who's who" of corporations that make up a part of millions of Americans retirement plans. Pensions, IRA's , 401k's etc. Do those facts cross your mind?

Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
Does it occur to you that when a company is split you get shares of all of the new companies? It’s not like your money goes poof if it splits up. But besides automation, consolidation is a major driver of job loss the last 45 years. It also does a tremendous disservice to the consumer.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 8:10 pm I guess I should have clarified I was asking MCRF since he authored the post.

If you don’t want anyone else to chime in then send the person in question a private message. Stop with the “I wasn’t talking to you” crap.

Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
Mitt Romney was right. Corporations are people.
People with shares in their 401k, Roth IRA, pension funds for union and non-union people.
If you hold individual shares you have the right to attend corporate shareholder meetings and vote on issues.
Once years ago Microsoft was the behemoth, US had antitrust actions against it due to browser bundling practices.
Now Google is the behemoth.
Where would RT like to set the limit of the size of a company? How exactly to break up big companies like Amazon? Does some politburo-Marxist-communist central planning commission decide, like in communist China?
Let’s break Ford motor up into mercury and Jaguar and land rover again, yeah, that’ll be great. Not.

Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
Well… you’re right… since Mercury is no more and never was independent and Jaguar and Land Roger were sold together to India’s Tata motets you are spot on that it’s a terrible idea. But we used to have (back in them there good old days) a lot more rigid structure that made it hard for companies to combine. That was deregulated out.radiofann wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 9:59 pm Mitt Romney was right. Corporations are people.

Maybe you should stop answering question I didn't ask you. If I asked somebody else a question I don't give a fuck what you think. So stop that "answering for other people" crap.
Se how that works?
Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
Your position is essentially invalid buddy just like that stupid signature line. Ask it privately otherwise shut up. It’s a message board for everybody to respond to topics not one on one conversations. I’m sorry you cannot comprehend that. I feel bad for you. I really do.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 8:33 amMaybe you should stop answering question I didn't ask you. If I asked somebody else a question I don't give a fuck what you think. Other than AT&T 44 years ago what other breakups am I "forgetting"?
And to be clear getting shares of several new companies you maybe didn't want to own .
And through that whole break up and subsequent mergers eventually 11 companies became 3 companies today.

I won't "shut up" anymore than you will. Why would you suggest I "shut up"? Because I annoy you?Rate This wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 8:37 am

And lets be honest you don't "feel bad for me" that's a just a lie. What I think is you dislike me intensely which is OK because that is where I am headed with you. The only guy on this board I intensely dislike.
Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
Each of those subsequent mergers eliminated duplicate jobs. Regulators have the ability to say “no can do” and not approve mergers. They rarely seem to these days. But for all the whining about needing competition it has really been greatly reduced in the last 60 years or so. Not only are their fewer positions and less need for certain properties and pieces of infrastructure that now sit rotting away but there are also less incentives for the companies to provide good service. When you’re one of only two games or the only game in town you have a lot of leeway to be lazy and treat your customers poorly. It’s not like they can go elsewhere.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 8:46 amOther than AT&T 44 years ago what other breakups am I "forgetting"?

I do not intensely dislike you. I don’t know you. But some of the things you say just make you come off as “get off my lawn”. The I didn’t ask you thing is a perfect example.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 8:52 amI won't "shut up" anymore than you will. Why would you suggest I "shut up"? Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
So RT would like to have all of the several dozen auto makers in business today, that were in business in the 20s.
Nash, packard, Hudson, numerous others either failed or were merged. There’s no way to prove if the govt forced all of those auto makers to continue separately to this day, we’d be better off.
Big three did get lazy, had poor quality in 79s, and the Honda’s and Toyota’s came in and forced big three to compete and get leaner and better.
For that matter would RT even allow buggy and whip makers to be forced to be in business after the horseless carriage prevailed?

Re: Biden and The Fed steered US away from recession
Who said that? If it goes under that’s one thing. But 50 of your favorite brands many of which were independent are now part of a brand portfolio under a single giant owner. They can use half the employees to do the same things for six brands in one plant that might have been 6 other plants employing X number more people. Between this and automation is the bulk of your job losses. Our industrial production is higher than 40 years ago with far less people. And that’s despite all the consumer goods made overseas.radiofann wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 9:32 am So RT would like to have all of the several dozen auto makers in business today, that were in business in the 20s.
