JAM Radio wants to buy 106.3 WGLM-FM Lakeview

Unread post by Thunderstorm »

Michigan – James Chesley’s JAM Radio has filed an $8,000 deal to buy adult hits “M-106.3” WGLM-FM, Lakeview, MI and classic country WGLM, Greenville, MI (1380) from James Angus’ Packer Radio. The deal also includes the Greenville, MI-licensed translator W270DN at 101.9 FM, which simulcasts WGLM-AM. In addition to the $8,000 cash payment, JAM Radio will assume Packer Radio’s outstanding debt. And as part of the sale, Chesley will transfer his 25% interest in Packer Radio-owned AC “I-1430” WION, Ionia, MI to Angus. Source: Deal Digest

Does this mean the end of "Jim Aaron's" music directorship at I-1430? I believe these two were pals in radio in Angola, IN before making their moves and unions in West Central Michigan.

Jim Aaron was indeed Music Director from the inception of WION's return to the airwaves in 2004 til just a few years ago. When WION was first on the air, he did a Saturday mooning show on the station then spent much of each weekend dubbing music from LP to add to the library and entering it in to the music scheduler. Even with multiple (music) libraries purchased, there are always songs "left behind" that he thought should be added. He did a GREAT job of this!

His role in the last few years was providing "additional music cuts" to WION for use as WION wanted, and the general library of the two stations was therefore much the same, but executed differently. Thus a different sound to each of the stations. The (music) clocks that are used on the two stations are quite different, and some of the music added for the past 3 or so years at WION has been through listener suggestions on WION during the Midday Show's "Mostly Request Thursday" or from Justin, the newest of the WION family who has found some very unique cuts to add for WION since taking over full control of the midday show with Jim cohosting at the round table.

Promos with Jim Aaron as Music Director for WION were aring until a while back, then pulled with the planned separation of the companies coming, They were always fun because they highlighted the more "varied" music selection" which began 20 years ago. They brought attention to the music recipe that started WION in 2004.

The partners' separation is one of an agreeable nature, as both are looking toward their own retirements with different plans for each. Jim Aaron has been completely in charge of day to day operations of WGLM since it was bought by the partners. It's natural and a good thing for listeners, and good for him to want to be full owner of the Greenville and Lakeview radio properties and for Ionia and Greenville/Lakeview to separate.
