"Ships weren’t meant to stay in the harbor, they were built to venture out to sea.” I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Because he is an egotistical jackass.
Re: David Custer
When was the last time local media challenged Whitmer? Or the last public press conference Whitmer had without a scrip. Any Michigan democrat running for office will be protected by Michigan's state-run media, thy are worse than ever.

Sinclair and Byron Allen. You would do better at Walmart.
Re: David Custer

Go back to watching Faux News. It’s apparent you agree with the slanted news that neo-conservative Sinclair Broadcastings FOX66/NBC25 push….

What do you recommend as an alternative?
Re: David Custer
That Facebook video is hilarious!
“Unfortunately, hard work, passion and caring for others wasn’t enough."
"I worked some crazy hours, holidays, late nights, and missed out on a lot in my personal life..." Thank goodness he still found the time and energy to sell those crappy holiday sweaters a few years back.
So basically Custer's ego bloated to the point that leadership got tired of his me-first attitude, they decided to not renew his contract, and he now thinks he's been unfairly treated? Yup, that sounds like David Custer.
The guy just oozes insincerity in that video. He repeatedly overstates his importance and comes across as quite narcissistic and self-absorbed.
In other words, Custer may have a future in politics.
My condolences to the Custer fan base.

FWIW I don't hate the guy and don't wish ill on him. I just knew this was going to happen eventually. Custer thought he was destined for something bigger than WNEM's market. This showed through his attitude and he wanted special treatment. His departure isn't surprising at all. He was going to butt heads with management eventually.

This is a very good theory and I'd bet it's the most likely explanation.Jack5o2soco wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 8:06 pm I wouldn't be surprised if he got greedy and stuck up in his negotiations and they said, "sayonara."
Custer wanted the big boy bucks. Mgmt said no, he said he'll leave if they don't pay up, and they called his bluff. So, Custer panicked and filed a lawsuit ("discrimination, harassment, retaliation") to save face.
What an ego.

It's too bad. Although doesn't surprise me with the ego of the News Director there. I see a lot of non Custer fans on here but if you read any other social media, you folks are the only ones that don't like him. For whatever reason. I worked with David previously, he is a hard worker, he always helped out in the newsroom on whatever was needed and he worked with a lot of young people. From what I heard, it wasn't a contract or money thing. He stuck up for himself and others in the newsroom against the evilness of Jayne. She doesn't like to be questioned. She was jealous that more people went to David for help or advice than her. People didn't want to go to her-- that is when she was actually there. David and many others went to HR about her behavior and she retaliated against every single one of them in one way or another. It's' not the first time, she was the same way at WJRT.

Today would’ve been my 11th anniversary back at TV5. While I could dwell on this day and "the why” of what happened, I am fighting to keep focusing on the path forward. I have come to terms with the idea that I may never understand the continued viciousness of trying to erase me from the station’s history. A year ago, I was being celebrated with a ten year anniversary plaque and praised for my leadership. I suppose this happened to me at this stage in my life because I am far more aware of why people are motivated to do the things they do. Hurt people hurt people. If you to dig deep within yourself you can find compassion for just about anyone. I know that this final act at the station doesn’t define me. The relationships I’ve built and nurtured in the workplace and our community are what matter to me. People matter and how you treat them is what defines you.
October 7th would’ve also been a day we celebrated an amazing cheerleader in my life. It’s my Granny Mae’s birthday. I am choosing to focus on this beautiful human who only brings a smile to my face when the thought of her crosses my mind. Several years ago while out shooting a story, I asked my photographer if we could swing by the bingo hall where I knew she would be on her birthday. We pulled up to the hall in our big news van. The front windows of the bingo hall were all glass. You could see right in to the dozens of gray-haired grannies feverishly daubing away on the bingo cards in front of them. I walked in wearing my suit and tie. The caller stopped announcing the numbers and got quiet. Apparently, I was making quite the spectacle. Anytime you walk in from the news, people stop what they're doing cause they want to know what's going on. I walked over to my granny and she lit up with pride. I gave her a big hug and wished her a happy birthday. She was bragging so hard to her bingo friends with just a look on her face. She was a simple Tennessee woman who didn’t ask for much outta life. I knew this gesture meant the world to her. She loved her grandsons and she let everyone know it. She talked about my visit to the bingo hall on her birthday for several years.
Happy Birthday Granny Mae! I hope Elvis is serenading you in heaven!
