Anybody remember the 4 o'clock movies on channel 7

Unread post by ecsuser »

I just happened to turn on the Movies channel (2.2) and found 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' playing. it made me remember the days when once a year, the four o'clock movies would play the Ape movies for a whole week. I couldn't wait to get home from school and watch.

I remember they played “the great escape” over two days, part 1 and part 2. I remember it was so cool then.

It was “4:30 movie” also, at one time.

I was working at 7 during the days of the 4 o'clock movie which interestingly enough shrank significantly when we added Action News at 5PM. This of course meant that the film editors had to edit the movie down from whatever it was to fit in a one hour block instead of the previous 2 hour block. At that time I noted how the movie was significantly ruined after it was cut in half. I found this to be disgusting for the viewer.

I left it on in the background while I worked. But in the end, sadly it had lost it's magic. Oh to be 10 yrs old again.

I don't know if anyone remembers when the Detroit Free Press published their own tv guide (called the TV Book), but I got it one Sunday and "baby godzilla" was on the cover with Godzilla. As an excited kid, I showed my neighbor and said "it's monster week!" He pointed at baby godzilla and said, "good, as long as that asshole isn't on."

So stupid and so funny at the same time.
