Is this a problem because they won’t get ratings? Surely the only people who would be unaware of the event and switch away or pull it up on their phones or whatever is like 2 people. It’s a problem if this was 1968 and we had 3 channels. But now? Oh please.

WJBK should've at least went wall-to-wall in the 7PM hour.

Looks like each FOX O&O station was free to make its own call. The baseball game was largely preempted in both San Francisco (KTVU) and Minneapolis (KMSP).

Out of curiosity, did CBS Detroit treat the situation with the full weight it deserves and refer to it as an assassination attempt, or did they merely say it was a "shooting"? I've noticed that some news outlets try to downplay it as a shooting

They aired national CBS coverage for many hours last night, just as 4 and 7 did with regard to NBC News and ABC News coverage, respectively.

I found CBS's national coverage to be better than NBC and much better than ABC.

Most outlets at first called it a "shooting" then based on a news release from the FBI changed the phrasing to "assassination attempt." It was plainly obvious from the video being shown from the get-go that Trump was the target of the shooter.

BBC was first to break the news that eyewitnesses spotted the shooter on the roof of a nearby building minutes before shots rang out. BBC also interviewed an eyewitness who alerted authorities to the man with a rifle (and said authorities basically didn't do squat to prevent the incident and only reacted once shots were actually fired).

Oddly long after it was clear what was happening FOX News was still calling it an “incident”.

Who is the clueless moron at Fox 2 and/or at the Fox Network who decided providing ZERO news coverage and running with regularly scheduled programming was appropriate?

Even at the top of the 7PM hour - zero news coverage. The Twins / Giants baseball game has aired uninterrupted. Not even as much as a crawl at the bottom of the screen during the times I checked.

I was in a restaurant just after the assassination attempt, and the game was on a big screen TV. It was a little surreal that it wasn't mentioned, with probably most of the people in the restaurant unaware of it. I was in the same restaurant when the news of Queen Elizabeth's death broke, and it immediately became a topic of conversation from table to table.

When someone is shot, you don't know if it was an assassination attempt until you can determine the motive. There are more reasons that political motive to want to kill someone -- sometimes there is no reason at all.

When someone is shot, you don't know if it was an assassination attempt until you can determine the motive. There are more reasons that political motive to want to kill someone -- sometimes there is no reason at all.

WHAT?? An assassination doesn't have to have anything to do with politics at all, nor does it need a reason. This was obviously not an accident that the former President was shot. And that was pretty clear very early on. You can say that the person who ultimately died was not assassinated, but instead murdered. And the two who were critically injured were not assassination attempts, but attempted murder.
