New 9 Element FM antenna

Unread post by n8fnr »

Sky Blue has released a 9 element antenna for FM. Supposed to be a copy of the Channel Master Stereo Probe 9. Looks interesting.

Well known FM antenna expert Brian K6STI says it likely is not great. That's too bad..

SUCH a long boom would be very touchy aiming for a weak one !
The biggest Yagi i used on 3M was only 5 elements.

Hi Z. You live between most of the high power city FM antennas !
Maybe we can chat on 6M , I check the low end of the band when I hear E-skip reports. usually sit on 50.090 kHz.

I had an Antennacraft FM-10 on a rotator on top of a two story house, with an Alliance T-45 Rotator, on a 3 foot tripod.

In Genesee County, I could quite easily put WRIF 101.1 in a side null with the rotator and get WIXX 101.1 Green Bay, and WBRN-FM 100.9 Big Rapids quite regularly. I word rock it back and forth a couple times. The length of the boom is 117 inches, with a short double boom.

Slight differences between the Channel Master and Blue Sky 9 Element Antennas. Phasing lines and director attachment and connection to boom are different. Channel Master picture from k6sti site. Blue Sky antenna picture from specifications.

If anyone is actually seriously interested in a high-performance, well-designed, well-constructed, long-boom Yagi antenna for the 88 to 108-MHz FM broadcast band, you should look at this antenna

InnovAntennas FM Broadcast 88-108 MHz OP-DES Yagi Antennas 18484-0110
https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/iva-18484-0110

Boom length = 18.4-feet made from 1.25-inch square tubing

Front-to-back ratio = 20 to 44 dB
