Most of those tech jobs are in the SF area. SF has become hell on Earth. If you want to work in LA or anywhere near LA, be prepared for horrifying overpopulation. The Fresno-Sacramento area sucks. The beautiful parts of California are basically the rural regions where the only jobs available involve picking food.
Suggestion: Work really hard in whatever industry you are in. Work so hard that your employer is basically taking advantage of you. Work in several different jobs and become the best at them all. Then quit. Start your own business. Find a few reliable people and treat them well. Scale accordingly.
You can do this from anywhere nowadays for most jobs. Then you don't have to worry about cost of living, you can vacation wherever you like, and enjoy life. Working for anyone else past the age of 35 is a bad, bad idea.
