Mostly behind the scenes, but still valuable members of our team. In the last six months, we’ve laid off fourteen people.

Sorry to hear that T’Varinuss. Hopefully everyone laid off will be able to land in even better jobs elsewhere. This industry sucks for how it treats its people when the company is mismanaged from the top.

Maybe the networks should stop trying to put their affiliate partners out of business by charging crazy fees for less and less content.

I’m curious as to how those impacted were not treated professionally and with respect. What do you know?

I heard no notice, they were just called in and told their jobs were eliminated. They were given some sort of lame severance and a box of vegetables.

Truth is right about networks being part of the problem. Stations have basically 2 revenue sources: commercial ads and retransmission rights. Ad revenue is down as big tech like Google, Meta eat up digital revenue. And as more and more people cut the cord, retrans compensation continues to fall.

The National Association of Broadcasters warned last week during membership and lobbying events last week that if the FCC doesn’t step in to help local broadcasters you could see small markets like TC/Cadillac be the first places where entire stations close, leaving viewers with one or none tv newscasts. These are the places where they’ve already seen a drop off in newspapers. Not good for viewers, journalism or democracy.

They mentioned the lack of new advertisers as the major reason for the layoffs, the expiring affiliate agreements with Fox and CBS, and the retrans negotiations with Dish and Direct TV. The email also said " These negotiations are critical to our future and how we continue to inform, educate, and entertain the communities we serve".

Let's say they lost network affiliation. If that were the case,

1. Would they become an independent station?

2. Would we get out of market affiliates from the tri-cities?

Would have to think independent would be an option. Reverse retrans fee are crushing to small broadcasters.

No way a white feed gets put into the market. This will be a story of national importantqnce how a big bad network shuttered a small family held company over Pennies to them.

If 9&10 were to become an independent station, how would they do it with fewer employees. The station is in a death spiral.

Aren't you an unemployed photog? What experience (in years) do you have running a broadcast operation? Quit talking out your ass.

TC: wrong again. Gainfully employed just out of TV news. Not that it matters, but I have more than three decades in broadcasting. Don’t know why you suggest photogs can’t understand the business of broadcasting either. It seems that you are misinformed and are the one talking out of your @$$.

If you believe what multiple people have posted on the Buzzboard, 9&10 continues to lay off people. They are losing revenue. They don’t have a strong management team and lack vision.

Not sure how you think 9&10 is going to be stronger by the end of the year. At least 7&4 has deep pockets with Sinclair — something Heritage clearly lacks.

9&10 used to be one of the strongest small market stations in the Midwest. Now it’s just struggling to keep the lights on.
