I just now heard of Mr. Cameron's passing. Prayers to his family and friends.
I quit opening this thread when one of you started waiting for him in a library parking lot every weekend.
I'm actually old enough to remember Page and Cameron on their show,
The gentleman was a fountain of sports knowledge for sure. Rest in Peace.

Looks like someone will have to update his resume’ to include stalker. Geez, you try to assist a helpless putz and you get labeled as some sort of creep. Can’t win.

Another flashback memory of Ron Cameron: When I was working in a drugstore in Grosse Pointe Farms in the late 1970's/early 80's, Ron came in a few times. After the Detroit Free Press Marathon in (I believe) 1979 he told us that he had run in the race, but did not finish. He spoke of wanting to finish in the next year's event. Bobbert, with your ability to look up past issues of the Free Press, can you see if the newspaper listed Mr. Cameron as a participant?

Alas, the Free Press listings only list people who finished the race.

There was a list of entrants in the 10/14/79 edition of the Free Press, but I couldn't find Ron's name.

Maybe it was in 1978 or 1980. I'll check that sometime.

After the Detroit Free Press Marathon in (I believe) 1979 he told us that he had run in the race, but did not finish. He spoke of wanting to finish in the next year's event. Bobbert, with your ability to look up past issues of the Free Press, can you see if the newspaper listed Mr. Cameron as a participant?

Maybe it was in 1978 or 1980. I'll check that sometime.

Yeah, it was my memory that the Free Press would include the names of entrants in its pre-Marathon coverage. I just don't see Ron as a runner. But maybe that's how he came to know Emily Gail. "Aloha Emily."

Nothing in 1978 or 1980 either. Maybe another year.

Regarding my "archives:" I recorded many of Ron's shows directly off WPON's and WDTK's streams. I have also recorded many (if not all) of the podcasts from WDTK, plus other sites that have old Ron recordings. I have downloaded (if that's the right term) them in my Apple Music library. Can someone show me how to transfer them to this site. I'm happy to share them here. (I even have Mr. Cameron's infamous and last broadcast on WDTK with Jake Wood, dated April 30, 2023.)

The drugstore (Kent Drugs) closed at the end of 1981. Theoretically Ron's pronouncement could have been in 1981, but don't think Ron was stopping by after his WXYZ-AM show was cancelled. Also Ron's memory was faulty, but I didn't bother to correct him when we spoke on the air: My store was at the corner of Fisher and Kercheval in Grosse Pointe Farms (1 Kercheval), whereas Ron was making reference to the Schettler's drugstore which was roughly two blocks away on Fisher, near the intersection of Fisher and Maumee in Grosse Pointe City.

Regarding Schettler's, indeed the location was across from Grosse Pointe High School/Grosse Pointe South High School (name depends on the date). Ron also made reference to a Subway's restaurant which was also in the vicinity of the corner of Maumee and Fisher. The former Subway's building is now used as a warehouse for the nearby Fresh Farms Market.

Along with the Sports View Today episodes on YouTube, what a treasure trove of classic tapes available for future historians. And for the 30 for 30 on Ron that's just waiting to be produced.
