He always said he would never retire.I guess he was right. RIP Ron
When I talked with him two weeks ago, he asked me what I did for a living. I told him, then mentioned that I was about to retire. He laughed and said, "I'm never going to retire!" So hopefully he was happy in the saddle until the very end.
He also asked me what I did for a living when I saw him in December. When I told him I was retired, he scoffed. "You're 30 years younger than me, & I'm not retired!" Then he asked how old I was. That question immediately brought to mind a thirtysomething co-worker, an absolute unit, who was celebrating a birthday. When a twentysomething colleague asked him how old he was, this mountain of a man replied, "You don't ask a lady her age." So I answered Ron's question. "You don't ask a lady her age." Always quick with a comeback, Ron said, "But you're not a lady." Moments later, he smiled & said, "You're right."

Would be a nice gesture if Martin was given the go ahead for a show next Friday

The end of an era. Just like Sinatra, Ron did it his way. Lived his passion. Gotta admire that. A couple thousand “pages” and many thousands of posts attest to the fact that he was Legendary. Maybe he pulled an Andy Kaufman on the listening public before there was Andy Kaufman…

Listening to WPON the past few hours in the background as the AA show starts in a bit, good selection of songs they are playing

I read that Martin got the green light for next week, should be a good show with some fun memories

If anyone knows the transient world of sports radio, the downs and ups and the hard work it takes, it’s Sean Baligian. I see him around town quite often, don’t ever wanna bother him, but have always appreciated and enjoyed his work. Might have to say “What’s Up?” the next time I see him!

Listened to Sean when he was WPON, and he posts some great BBQ on his social media :)

The guys from AA and Revolving Door Show will be working with Martin, & Mike from the station, in putting together next week's tribute show. They'll be taking questions from callers, along with airing the "best of" Ron reels.

Missing his “last” show is a source of frustration.
Maybe the show will air at 11. If so, we can learn who was the last caller to speak to Ron.

Caller #7: ??? (I got a call, so I missed this caller's name.)
Whoever the last caller to speak to Ron is shall carry that omen from this point forward. Who is the lucky one to carry that grim reaper fortune on in place of Ron??
It was the me the NEPO CALLER! I feel honored to be the ONE! Ron was a fun man to talk with. He always had great guests from the sports world.

“Telephone Line” from ELO on the AA and the Revolving Door Show…kinda timely and reminds us of when Ron would be getting the “ghost” from somebody or Denny.

I am curious how the media will report this, including the other sports personalities.
I would be surprised if there's any notice in the Detroit papers. In Ron's memory, I should add that there likely will not be more than one paper much longer (something he had been saying for YEARS). Maybe Ron's Boswell, the Free Press's Neal Rubin might have some retrospective feature article down the road.

Kind of sad that Ron isn’t here to read and hear the many tributes to him. It seemed like these last few years were pretty lonely for Ron.
I remember about a dozen years ago, when Ron strong-armed the owners of the business I (still) work at to buy an “ad” from him. His “sales technique” was basically incessantly bothering (in person and over a landline) this husband and wife, until they finally relented and comped him a dinner for four, just to have him leave them alone! I remember the night he and another gentleman came in with two women, and enjoyed their free dinner for four. Ron was in a sport coat, and I’m pretty sure I was the only person in the building who knew who Ron was.
Through the years, I always wondered “Who the hell were Ron’s dinner companions?!?!”
