From Flint? 1 on 100,000. But why not find the most absurd abuse example and try to present it as what will happen for everyone. It's the idiots guide to responding to poverty.lidoshuffle wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 7:16 amYou actually believe that scenario doesn't happen?TC Talks wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 6:51 pmSo you are suggesting that pregnant and mothers of newborns are going to leave their children, get in a car and to the Motor City Casino?lidoshuffle wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 5:29 pmYou're right "TC"...I never see Old Black Men at MGM or Motor City casinos...TC Talks wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 9:35 pmReally? They’ll drop the kid off somewhere and go down there… what are they gonna do get there and leave the kid in the car? They aren’t walking in with it.lidoshuffle wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 7:16 amYou actually believe that scenario doesn't happen?TC Talks wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 6:51 pmSo you are suggesting that pregnant and mothers of newborns are going to leave their children, get in a car and to the Motor City Casino?lidoshuffle wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 5:29 pmYou're right "TC"...I never see Old Black Men at MGM or Motor City casinos...TC Talks wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 9:35 pmReally? You mean like your suggestion that freezing to death - something that statistically happens less often than being killed by a lightning strike - is somehow a significant problem that affects the homeless?
Re: Guaranteed Income Starts in Flint
You think poverty can be ended? The Bible suggests otherwise.
Deuteronomy 15:11
"For there will never cease to be poor in the land..."
Mark 14:7
"The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them whenever you want..."
So can we help the poor? Yes. Should we help the poor yes? But let's not pretend that we can put an end to it.
Re: Guaranteed Income Starts in Flint
We certainly have the means with which to try. Thank god you’re an optimist…bmw wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 2:18 pmYou think poverty can be ended? The Bible suggests otherwise.

I'm just stating the reality that you will never ever end poverty. There are a certain percentage of people who are pre-disposed and destined to live that way, and there's literally nothing that can be done about it. Giving them cash is a temporary band-aid. That cash doesn't fix the broken families or broken educational system.
Look at how many people who were once filthy rich and famous end up later in life bankrupt. Obviously having hoards of cash wasn't the answer to their problem.

There is much work to do… probably never fix broken families or a broken education system either. Those have always been problems. Having 2 parents doesn’t mean a hill of beans if they both fight constantly and they hate each other. That’s always been a problem. When divorce was illegal it simply forced all those people to remain stuck together which was a bad answer too.bmw wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 2:30 pmI'm just stating the reality that you will never ever end poverty. It happened twice in my county last year. 10 in the last decade. No one person has been struck by lightning.
You obviously didn't look very hard. I found 7 stories of people just in Michigan who froze in 2023. You aren't that dense, I believe that you just don't care very much about people. Try getting faith.

In my opinion, you need to spend time reading the entire Bible, cause you most certainly have missed half the teachings of Christ. Have you embraced same sex partnerships yet as The Pope has commanded?bmw wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 2:18 pmYou think poverty can be ended? The Bible suggests otherwise.

As far as ending Poverty, you clearly haven't found faith yet.

Is bmw even Catholic? Outside of the Catholic church very few Christians care what the pope says.TC Talks wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 5:42 pmIn my opinion, you need to spend time reading the entire Bible, cause you most certainly have missed half the teachings of Christ. Re: Guaranteed Income Starts in Flint
It's Cafeteria Catholicism... take a big heaping helping of what I like and avoid the rest. It's the single biggest issue I have with the Church (and other denominations are not exempt from this line of thinking). I just couldn't square myself away with the blatant hypocrisy coming out of it. And before anyone asks, I'm a confirmed Catholic so I have the right to complain.
Re: Guaranteed Income Starts in Flint
Goals aren't achieved when you don't target the ultimate finish line. There are several countries that have ended poverty. They did it by making it a priority and they didn't quit until the goal was met. Anything else is marginal. Are you marginal?
For most, it was an economic strategy. Do you know what the cost of poverty is for a society?
