Also, 670 WMAQ in Chicago took a similar "mainstream" approach with its music and became the most-listened-to Country station in the nation in the mid/late '70s, obviously helped by being a 50kw clear-channel signal and by the legendary "WMAQ is gonna make me rich" promotion. So legendary that even as late as the late '90s, WMAQ was arguably better known for that promotion than for its then-current all-news format.

I would see WWJ-FM 98.7 before I'd see a classic country. Or even a return to Top 40 (not as Amp) to take on 95.5.

I can see a need for Wwj on FM as I’ve gone to the 97.1-HD3 channel a few times on my way to work in the morning. It’s got a few-seconds delay from the AM and those tunnels in Oak Park drop out the AM signal just long enough that I miss something.

Will it happen? Dunno….. I’ve gone past 93.1 *once* while searching for something …. Not sure there was a need by cumulus to ditch that for FLR $$, but okay.

Any ideas on numbers for the “new” 93.1?

Do cars even come with HD audio anymore, unless you buy a fully optioned vehicle? Portable HD radios are basically non-existent for sale. I prefer listening to music in the above CD quality lossless format on Apple, Amazon or TIDAL music. Not all of their music is is 24-bit/192 khz, but the most popular and many of the classics are remastered. It's like hearing the stuff CSX has played for years for the first time. TIDAL has original audio direct from the studio that has zero compression loss, but you have to pay extra for that.
Was car shopping and the low and mid trim levels in many cars does not include HD radio. The second to the top trim level on Mazdas includes SiriusXM, but no HD radio.

I can't imagine anything but it declining from here on out.

98.7 could use some playlist tweaking, but it fills a small part of whatever void 89x from 1995 left behind honestly. Just sucks that it's essentially a robot, and even sounds like it right down to the tinney sounding processing they use.

The station definitely sounds a lot better than when it was Billie-Eilish.7

Alt seems to be gaining some traction with Julia and the music changes. It’s still the odd man out if/when Audacy decides to put WWJ on FM, but they’re starting to look respectable, given the format’s history in Detroit.

Maybe 98.7 could flip to dead air. Not like anyone is listening anyway.
