It's only overkill if people aren't listening, and as you just said, people are eating it up.
FM music radio in 2023 is where AM music radio was in 1981: Mostly irrelevant on the way to extinction. Changing technology is certainly a big reason, but in many ways the industry did it to themselves.

Amen. It's so much better when those stations are pumping out quality butt rock. We can never have enough Kansas, Boston, or Pink Floyd on the radio dial.

Yeah, so, you tried that one on me in another forum and it didn't work there, either. Nobody is clamoring for more of that. Idk if you noticed, but this time the station was a country station. I think the aggravation comes from the fact that it's a choice of four 150 song playlist formats or Jesus stations, which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have a stranglehold on the non-comm dial, also. Trust me, nobody is upset we aren't getting another station that plays the only 150 rock songs released between 1967 and 2023.

They wouldn't be invading the commercial dial if the commercial dial had anything useful on it. What other format should end up here that wouldn't be the same dreck, or some ultra niche format that isnt profitable?
No commercial broadcaster is coming to put a good station on the air. Christian stations by and large have live on-air staff, do community outreach, and create engagement with their listeners. You know, all the things everyone on here clamors for. But they're the ones ruining radio?

Agree.
Cumulus is holding onto the DRQ calls, so 98-7 DRQ is a no go.
They tried CHR on that signal and it was meh at best.

I actually was able to pick up 93.1 at an outdoor party in Monroe County on Saturday. They still branded as New Country 93.1 and there were still a few advertisers left like Kroger. With the exception of Alan Jackson's cover of "Summertime Blues", it was just your typical pop country station, mostly new hits. FLR will probably last a long time on 93.1. I won't miss Pure Country that much as WYCD has been popular here for over 20 years, and is overall better. At least the one morning host was able to be the new morning host at sister country station W4 Country in AA.

I listened this morning around 9am. Of course like every other radio station, they have a morning show. The banter was not particularly interesting to me anyway. I'll probably be listening to Smile FM more than the new Family Life Radio. Less chatter and more music, which works for me.
