Sadly, not the case. Those translators are still being fed by 1030 AM, just with Catholic programming now.
Wasn’t 1030 catholic until about 2009

You're thinking of 1090 WCAR. 1030 was never Catholic as WUFL.

I thought Aaron K (Aaron Kannowski) on Radio Disney was good. He is from Harrisville.

Remember when 95.5 used to advertise "without the rap"?

That was in the '90's, during the "Q95" Hot AC era, when Gary Berkowitz was consulting. A long time ago. :smokin

You have no idea what I would give to tune in to 95.5 and hear even HALF of this playlist.

This was also the time where we had no true CHR in Detroit. Then DRQ reformatted in 1999 and the rest is history.

I remember Dick Purtan sarcastically making fun of the change from "Q95" to Q95-5. The latter was a tad brighter musically than the former. And I get your point. I feel the same way about Planet 96.3. So many opportunities missed, all thanks to meddling by executives. As for DRQ, through it's existence, even back to the early 70's, it was always "the other station" and usually preset #3 or #4. It still had enough cache' to be resurrected, after WLTI.

When was it when he quipped that the music was getting so current, they would be playing songs that hadn't even been released yet (or something to that effect)?

I remember when Dick Purtan moved from Q95 to WOMC, he commented how if he had to hear Hootie and the Blowfish one more time, he was gonna go crazy.

Despite mediocre ratings, WPLT seemed to bumble along. A turn to a poorly executed, short lived "classic alternative" format made ratings worse; I want to say that happened in 2000.

A few format choices in the late 90s might've made more sense for 96.3 than Modern AC. Chief among them - Mainstream AC. It's also interesting that 93.1 morphed into CHR by 1999 as opposed to 96.3 returning to its roots.

The first couple years of WDVD stunk. By mid or late 2003, the station began sounding better. Station got a makeover around that time with Kevin O'Neill taking over mornings and Sean Caldwell doing voiceovers. It was also around this time the station began sounding like an honest Hot AC.
I seem to recall hearing segues like Michelle Branch into Poison 😆

I remember those segues. I think Greg Ausham (PD at the time) wanted to rock out a little. He wasn't there long. The PD before him just disappeared. Left and never returned.
