Paper Mill Fungal Outbreak

Unread post by Sfpcp »

The Upper Peninsula made national news this week. A paper mill in Escanaba experienced a fungal outbreak that left one worker dead and hundreds of others sickened. I’m curious about how this is being covered in the UP? A google search I did showed only national headlines.

It was covered weeks ago and again when they announced it was closing for up to three weeks. Nothing really new yet to report. They' need to find the source of this stuff and clean.

Appears they are still looking. Cases were @ 109 as of Monday 5/1.

The explanation of the cycle of the fungus in the above article is kinda "The Last Of Us" scary... albeit on a much smaller, and slower-moving scale.

As a massive fan of that game series that was literally the first thing to come to mind when I heard the word "fungal" used to describe the infection. I guess as long as it isn't Cordyceps causing it in the brain we are fine LOL.

Channel 4 reported last night that the plant reopened.
