Dan Bongino out at WJR in May

Unread post by Screwball869 »

Just heard an announcement that Dan Bongino will be replaced on WJR starting in May. I'm wondering who is replacing him and why. His ratings seem stable.

Cumulus syndicates Bongino so this is interesting. If Clay and Buck are the replacements, it’s a major downgrade. Bongino is much more entertaining.

Maybe they’ll go crazy and bring in a local host…

Bongino is a nonsensical babbler. I can't stand listening to him. Buck & Clay are just plain boring.

I think in the Detroit market, Bongino has big shoes to fill after Rush Limbaugh. He’s too repetitive for my liking.

Clay & Buck? So let's replace political drivel with even more political drivel? They must be satisfied with that 2.6 share in the Golden Tower.

Just for fun, my odds on who is replacing Bongino:

Clay & Buck 1:1 (even money)
well known local host/talking head 10:1
Dana Loesch 15:1
Chris Plante on tape delay 25:1
Todd Starnes 35:1
Markley Van Camp & Robbins 60:1
rotating brokered/infomercials 100:1
Mr. Positive 50,000:1
Ron Cameron 1,000,000:1

Bongino has severe ADHD. He can't concentrate or focus on anything for very long. I'd almost rather listen to Brother Stair. 🤣

Buck & Clay won't move the needle very much. Every conversation or topic has a built in "live read" commercial, and they are about as exciting as dry white toast. Bongino's enemy at Cumulus, Larry O'Connor, from WMAL, can run circles around those two magpies. Now, that could be something.

Mr. Bongino is a very angry and confused man. He doesn't have ADHD, he just lacks common sense. He is so angry at people who don't think his way, that he turns so many people off. He preaches Christianity, but is so full of hate, that he doesn't even follow 5he teachings of Jesus. He's another Alex Jones.

I wonder if they'll finally do so?

Put his show in afternoons, move Albom and Guy Gordon to middays.

More likely outcome is probably Tom and Kevin adding an hour, Guy Gordon moving to a 1p to 4p slot, and Mitch Albom moving either to a 4p to 6p or 4p to 7p slot.
Would Drew want to go back to terrestrial radio? I mean, he does whatever he wants now, not to mention could Cumulus fork over salaries for everyone? I can't imagine a 2.6 rating is all that attractive, either, especially after the 105.1 debacle.

Drew would be a great idea. Whether or not he would be interested, who knows?

Adding more hours of what's not working (Tom & Kevin, and Guy Gordon) is not a good solution.

Dan Bongino absolutely has ADHD. As they say in New York, "Why don't you run up an alley and holler Fish?" :lol

When you say "fork over salaries for everyone", does this mean you think his podcast entourage would need to follow him?

I don’t see it. Drew Lane is not going to give up his podcast unless Cumulus pays an absurd amount of cash which they won’t.

Giving the current shows an extra hour each also probably costs too much, unless their contracts state they can do a three or four hour show for no extra pay.

I’m sticking with syndication most likely for noon-3. Other option is they clear their own Chris Plante from 9-noon and move Jordan and Dietz to the noon slot, but that is less likely.

Darkhorse: Jason Carr? (Depending on contract of course)
