They needed to promote Pat Wilson… who was the Assistant News Director until Denise drove him out and he reunited as Jayne Hodak’s #2 at WNEM. Pat knew the market, the people. People liked and respected him.

GM Brock refused to get rid of Denise before permanent damage was done. Now we’re stuck with Mahon and a bunch of open positions that they will hire under qualified new college grads to fill.

What was once a proud station is now a shell of its former self. Great job, Byron Allen!
Lest you forget Gray hired Denise. The station started going south with Gray as owner. Byron Allen doesn't care as long as he's is lining his own pockets. Most if not all TV stations in the Flint/Saginaw/Bay City market stink. The reporters don't stay in town long enough to build up conections. Reporters are starting in medium size markets and moving up faster because the market is so shallow.

Mr. V: I completely agree with everything you said. However, under qualified reporters are going to go wherever they get an offer. It’s the responsibility of station management (GM and News Director) to hire people who are qualified to do the job (or not hire). Retention of good talent also comes down to management creating the right culture and paying people. There’s a reason ABC 12 has seen an above average rate of departure (there has always been some movement as reporters go to bigger markets — but this level of departure in front and behind the camera is crazy). That reason is/was Denise. Ball is back in Brock’s hand to hire a better replacement than Pete Veto did. Let’s see if he can right the Titanic. (But I doubt it with the financial limitations being put on the station by Byron Allen… my two cents.)

We watch WSYM over the air sometimes, he seems to be doing well there. We just can't stand JR he can barely talk! He doesn't deviate from the same format and its tiring. My friend at 12 says the new assistant nd is lazy and doesn't do anything. On top of having bad history

JR hasn’t changed his maps in decades. He’s one of the most consistently laziest meteorologists. Yet management doesn’t seem to want to address JR or risk him leaving.

Because they are paid crap and harrassed at abc12. Pete Veto and Denise were a dynamic bullying duo who forced three dozen people out the door.

None of the top talent are pulling their weight. Name the last thing that Angie’s done that’s helped improve ratings? She is a very good reporter, yet never reports. She tells everyone how important the Diaper Drive is and how much work she does on it, yet it’s once a year. You rarely see her out in the community… at least not at a level that you’d expect to see top talent. And her digital/social presence is minimal.

I’m not a fan of Custer at TV5. Dave Bondy has fallen into Sinclair’s MAGA mold. But at least both do more on air and online reporting and community engagement.

But I guess Brock and Denise are afraid to touch “the Queen”…

Both Bondy and Custer are pussies. They are low level talent that should be happy they are in this market and not Alpena.

Denise killian "LOST" the newsroom.

Looks like denise FOUND her way to the exit faster than at 12.
