They aren't hiring?
The talent pool is terrible. Some of it is their own doing by not paying people competitively or offering enough perks up against other industries. And there are complainers no matter what.
But don’t take it out on the people who are still there. It’s reached a level where it is becoming excessive.

They should certainly be hiring OR be providing more compensation to existing staff.
I’m not sure we need a 4pm news. But here’s the difference…
Over at WNEM: they are adding newscasts, adding staff, just raised entry level wages, they are offering a $0 cost option for employee health care insurance, they are raising employer 401k match, they are building a state Capital Bureau, they are hiring away some of the top talent in front and behind the camera to work at the Saginaw based TV station.
Over at 12 and 25-66… we’ll, they aren’t doing any of this. In fact both stations seem to be going in the opposite direction in both quality and morale.
Now I’m not saying everything is perfect at 5… but the other two stations should be taking notes and working to meet 5 on these employee benefits. Right now, 25-66 and 12 are being left in the dust.
5 sounds like they are more focused on the things that matter… like paying its employees a livable wage. I’ll take that any day over a grilled cheese and tomato soup.

12 is finally get back a 401k match from Allen. Maybe his $36mil mansions are paid off already. 12 went from a terrible news director, to adding poor talent, to adding an awful company. There is zero incentive for anyone to go there. They lost how many people to wnem? 25 sounds like it's bleeding heavily as well.

Many TV stations are adding a 4pm newscast. It's not just 5. 9&10 in Cadillac have one and 8 in Grand Rapids as well.
Ellen leaving along with some soaps. Stations are cutting syndication costs by doing it themselves.
