Fresh young faces. Folks have a natural curiosity for something new. Someone they already know is not someone new.
It's perplexing to me when some of you rattle off names of people who hopefully planned for retirement, and have no desire to work again. IMO those folks are not a draw for viewers to change channels. Keep in mind. That's what it's all about. Getting viewers to change channels.
Agreed. And, let's face it. No viable business is going to sink a pot o gold into a venture and not expect a big payoff. Bringing back the same ole same old is not going to garner new views. New views are exactly what the money maker advertisers want. CBS isn't stupid.

They need both. Some name recognition from a popular personality and some young talent. No one is looking to hire someone who is not a known commodity. Name recognition matters. Clearly, you haven’t done this before.
I'll add that Detroit is not a rookie market, there are probably 70 municipalities in the metro area each with it's own city government and public safety departments. Hiring a bunch of 23 year old MMJs with little market experience, who won't be breaking a lot of original stories and sending some young lady into Pontiac, Inkster or Detroit to MMJ at night seems like flirting with disaster.
This article discussing CBS' streaming offerings appeared on the Hollywood Reporter web site yesterday. Down at the very bottom of the article is this:

Why not hire someone who actually has hands-on experience running a large newsroom responsible for producing 35, 40 or 50 hours of televised local news a week, preferably in a top 30 TV market?
On the other hand he knows the market and the station well. He’s been there since 50 was independent (1988).
Paul is an interesting choice, talented photographer and editor and has a boatload of Emmys but yeah, no idea what kind of newsroom management experience he has.
Good move! Paul has a great resume. In this day and age, you need someone who actually knows an area to start a major news operation from scratch. CBS for once, made a great hire. Now I know this is going to be a successful news operation! They are more then likely, going to hire local MMJs, reporters, and anchors.
