A good read from
David Zucker, of the Airplane! and other crazy funny movies of days of yore. Really funny stuff, but this article is serious.

A couple snippets:
" a Q&A in which an audience member asked a question we never used to receive: “Could you make Airplane! today?” My response: “Of course, we could. Just without the jokes.” "
"I still don’t fully understand why there’s a problem with making a joke that gets a laugh from an audience, even if it is mildly offensive. Why cater to the minority who are outraged when most people still seem to have a desire to laugh? Is there a way to determine what exact number of America’s population is killing joy for everyone? Is it 1 percent or 10; 3.3 million Americans or 33 million? Since I can’t seem to find one, let’s go with Phillips’s estimation of “30 million people on Twitter,” which computes to roughly 9 percent of America’s population."
He's 100% right on target, except only focused on that one narrow genre, comedy. Those same folks that are ruining comedy are also ruining many aspects of a civil society.

Wise words from David Zucker
Re: Wise words from David Zucker
I've read different things in the past where Seinfeld, Maher and others have said the same thing. One of the things Maher likes to bemoan is why does everyone worry about what the 9 percent on Twitter are saying.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Saw an old "All in the Family". Would NEVER be aired today.
The censorship king from out of state.

And this is called progress??

Re: Wise words from David Zucker
You're probably right. But, really, the show was poking fun at Archie and his prejudices, not promoting them.
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.
Re: Wise words from David Zucker
You know what show definitely couldn't be made nowadays?
Family Guy.

Ricky Gervais recently said that ‘The Office’ wouldn’t fly these days. And I found the British version to be less ‘offensive’ than our version.
