He’s been doing what I thought was “minor tv shows” over the last 20+ years.
Shows what I know.

I think The Weather Channel is a shell of what it used to be. IIRC, when IBM bought a chunk of the company it was split up and IBM ended up with basically all the "back end" of the operations and Byron just got the broadcasting portion.

NBC Universal (along with Blackstone Group and Bain Capital) bought The Weather Channel in its entirety from founding owner Landmark Communications in 2008. In 2016, they sold all of TWC's non-broadcasting assets to IBM, then sold the network to Allen in 2018.

He (or rather his media company) was also part of the deal with Sinclair Broadcast in the 2019 purchase of the FOX Sports Networks in Disney's deal acquiring 20th Century Fox. His estimated net worth is around $400M. A Hollywood force/player of the highest order and a long ways from his days working in Jimmy Walker's writing room alongside Jay Leno and David Letterman.

Financially, he's remains in third place.Lester The Nightfly wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 7:56 pmA long ways from his days working in Jimmy Walker's writing room alongside Jay Leno and David Letterman.
This deal reminds me of a local guy DuJuan McCoy purchasing WISH and WNDY in Indiana for 43 million in 2019. Why was WJRT so much more? It doesn't make sense.

Byron Allen may be buying TEGNA he has upped his bid if TEGNA does sell. Allen Media could be the new owner of WZZM in West Michigan.

He also knows how to play the race game to get a bigger piece of the pie:

His shows are SO bad
Re: Media mogul Byron Allen pays $70M for Michigan TV station WJRT
Well, what's next for Byron Allen, if he has WJRT, then he should be tendering an offer to Grey for WTVG as well as they were both twin stations at one time to take-over and backup if a coup occurred at WXYZ-TV with network affiliations and sales (which never did happen in the end)

He still does the late night show with comedians.
