Morning shows,
After Mike Avery and Deanna Felzone left 17 I watched the new group, just not feeling the chemistry is there, the dude just reads the prompter, does not get into some stories extremely dry in particular for a morning show, got to say not impressed at all. Watched 13 for a bit then 8, have been turning more to WOOD. I usually watch them at the tail end of the first hour on the first half of the second hour before heading out the door.
Happy for Mike and Deanna, wish them nothing but the best. It's a big blow to 17

Re: Morning shows,
Totally agree. Been watching News 8 Daybreak as well, although for me it is because 17 pushed the start time back from 4:30 to 5:00. I usually am heading out the door around 5:00.
Plus their 4pm newscast is not that great with the new format. I've found Judge Judy to be more entertaining viewing for that hour.

Now wood be a good time for WOOD to launch a 4pm Newscast.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 8:40 am Sounds like XMI's 4PM newscast received the same treatment as that found on channel 7 WXYZ in Detroit.
The WXYZ newscast gets absolutely demolished in the ratings by the 4PM newscast found on WDIV.
Only makes sense that Scripps takes that same LOSING formula and applies it to its newly acquired stations!
Re: Morning shows,
Next year when Ellen ends her show just my opinion. Kinda surprise that WZZM isn't doing a 4PM newscast since Judge Judy ended her court show, I guess WZZM wants to keep Judge Judy repeats on at 4PM.EricGRR wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 2:35 pmNow wood be a good time for WOOD to launch a 4pm Newscast.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 8:40 am Sounds like XMI's 4PM newscast received the same treatment as that found on channel 7 WXYZ in Detroit.

Re: Morning shows,
13 still looks like a public access channel, in my opinion. 8 has the talent and money.

Re: Morning shows,
Either WZZM figures it's cheaper to keep syndicating Judge Judy reruns than it is to produce another newscast, or their syndication contract doesn't expire for a while yet.

Re: Morning shows,
Driving around on Labor Day, I noticed a billboard on 131 NB near Ann, promoting the WZZM Morning News, FWIW.
WOOD moving Donovan Long up to their Daybreak team was a wise move, he's got a genuine effervescence, which had to be equalled or accentuated when Casey Jones went to the Community Engagement role.

Re: Morning shows,
I just feel like WZZM is nothing but a giant infomercial in the morning from the morning News through My West MICHIGAN.
WOOD does not feel like they are pandering to the advertising community.

Re: Morning shows,
Has My West Michigan been canceled not that I care since I'm not up at 9AM and I see the guide on my TV has Access Daily at 9AM. My West Michigan is just like Morning Mix, 8 West pay for play for the businesses to get an ad on the show.

Re: Morning shows,
It has to be that the contract isn't up for renewal because AFAIK it costs next to nothing to produce a 4:00 newscast at least in terms of capital or operating expenditures. Staff burnout might be another matter.Bull Shannon wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 5:55 pmEither WZZM figures it's cheaper to keep syndicating Judge Judy reruns than it is to produce another newscast, or their syndication contract doesn't expire for a while yet.
Re: Morning shows,
When the pandemic first began, they posted that they had suspended production because the show's format would be too hard to do via social distancing.
