How will Michigan Republicans mess up the Infrastructure bill?
How will Michigan Republicans mess up the Infrastructure bill?
With some of the worse roads in the US and a 110 billion dollar US bill on the way, I predict that Michigan Republican legislators will botch the plan in our state.

Democrats have squandered a generation worth of taxes in months, and you're worried about pothole that is the state's responsibility?

It's more likely that Whitmer will veto a broadly supported bipartisan bill. She's terrible.

Terrible would be a compliment.

Re: How will Michigan Republicans mess up the Infrastructure bill?
Let's just see what percentage of the bill is actually going to infrastructure.
You talk about the roads. Amen brother. Fix The Damn Roads.
But this bill. as I read on CNN anyway, includes money for new bike paths, a good percentage going to rail service for the eastern corridor, broadband for low income, money for airports and sea ports, buying electric buses and electric ferries. There is also money for cleaning up Superfund and brownfield sites, reclaim abandoned mine land and cap orphaned gas wells.
Quite a laundry list of things that have nothing to do with roads. Do you agree?
It seems to me the more I look at what one side didn't like about the other sides legislation, whether in Lansing or Washington, it's the added pork they don't care for, not what the bill is supposed to be for. (and both sides of the aisle are guilty). Before we fault one side or the other if this bill gets botched up, let's look at what the objections to the bill actually are.
Will the Republicans not want the roads fixed? Or will the Republicans have a problem with spending money for improvements to Bayview Park in Alpena? You and I both know some of the folks in Lansing are going to want money for things that have nothing to do with infrastructure. Yes or no?

Whatever happened to Whitmer's campaign to "fix the @#$% roads"? Thats what "infrastructure" should be. Not social programs. Now they want to DECONSTRUCT city expressways rather than build them. Then not build and extend needed expressways that have been planned for decades, because they want to discourage development further from cities.
They ought to extend the US 131 Expressway right into the middle of Traverse City, just to rile TC Talks up. Or at least put a loop to solve the horrendous traffic problems near the TVC Airport.

She said she would fix the dam roads:
But she needed her dyke/dam breaker AG to destroy it first while protecting those mussels.

Put all the powerlines underground that way don't get many power outages from ice storms, winds, tornados & thunderstorms that would be money well spent. I don't like pork in the bills that have nothing to do with what the bill is for put other pet projects have their own bill. Oh that's right if they did that the bill wouldn't pass that is why they put the pork into the bills and both sides do it.

Good short term solution. As underground power lines age, they start to fail. Unless there are anastomoses (Cardiovascular Medicine term) built to circumvent failures, after about 25 years, it takes forever to fix underground power lines, often days. Then they have to replace it all.

Let's see...
The $110 billion is over a 5 year period.
We have to split it with 49 other states (plus D.C.). We are larger - area wise and population wise - than most other states, though, so maybe our fair share is 4% of that $110 billion?
That would mean $4.4 billion over 5 years, or $880 million a year.
Such money would be very beneficial, but it wouldn't be enough to be completely transformative. How much would be permitted to be funneled to local & county governments? Those are the roads that are in the worst shape.

Not only is your post homophobic, but it is inaccurate. The dam in Sanford failed due to the idiot who owned a dam downstream failed to make the proper repairs. I got to see the damage when I was in Sanford. Very sad, but it is one tough town.audiophile wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 5:17 pmShe said she would fix the dam roads:
