BBC abandoned their North American shortwave audience about a dozen years ago. But sometimes it's still possible to receive their broadcasts they direct towards other parts of the world.
From a transmitter located in Madagascar, they broadcast to Western Africa for one hour every night on 9915 KHZ. But their signal crosses the Atlantic and provides fair reception in North America most nights.
Of course, if they ever found out someone over here was listening, they'd shut it down.
actually they shut down SW broadcasts to North america back in 2000, it was hugely controversial in the shortwave listener community and the first real sign that streaming was replacing shortwave rather than just supplementing it.

I worked on a project in college in 2002 centered around the BBC World Service and the media. My task was to outline the differences in reporting methods between the BBC and an American news service. I was excited to listen to BBC on shortwave for a research project for my first semester of college. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the shortwave signal, even with my shortwave technical know-how, and internet resources weren't kept up to date back then, so I didn't know if it was even still in service. I had to finish the project using the BBC's streaming service. Streaming service in 2002 wasn't exactly as easy or reliable as it is today. So much buffering, and getting RealPlayer to connect was just a pain.

This is an opportunity for antiquated NPR radio stations that are HD. NOBODY in radio sees a good opportunity, but internet folks do. One reason radio is dying.

BBC decided that instead of providing their programming free, over the air, they can sell it to PBS, SiriusXM and cable companies.
And the entities who are paying for that programming don't want competition from free OTA,. broadcasts.

Free BBC news is out there. You just have to know where to look. Yes, Money Sponge TV is one place. However, if you look in the "new" forms of media, it will be staring you in the face... apps, channels and sites, legally. And trust me... the Money Sponge TV 6pm reports is actually allot different than what the world or the UK sees on it's local taxation television.
Here In Florida, I've been getting armchair quality reception of BBC every night from 0300 t0 0400 GMT on 6195 KHZ. The transmitter is in Oman and broadcasting to Europe. It pounds in like a local, every evening in the south-east US. Of course, we wouldn't want BBC to find out anyone is listening here. They'd shut it down.
I got the Beeb on 9410 mid evening out of the Ascension transmitter here in SE Mich. It was good enough to listen to and not be bothered by any noise issues.
