I see nothing either in the US or Canadian Database that suggests that. The latest information is from 2011. I suspect that they may have been on STA for the last several years. That would be 125 watts nondirectional. I don't know where to find Canadian STA information. But that would explain the weak signal observed. With WTCM at 50 kW, the signal to the Northwest receives a lot more interference. Under the treaty, CKWW is not protected on US soil, and never has been. That's how they are able to have WRDT 560 and CKWW 580 so geographically close together (27.5 miles). Interference ratios were used to squeeze it in.
Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Didn't realize that they were on 125W- that's actually not bad for reaching Toledo on skywave on that low of power, the low band position obviously helps. So how can they get 250W again, aside from simulcasting on 93.9FM?

Does anyone know the story straight from the horse's mouth, not our generally informed conjecture?

I live in London ON, about 120 miles east of Windsor. CKWW pounds in here like a local, during the day.

CKWW’s pattern is aimed to the northeast, so the signal is great in Sarnia and London. It’s weak in the western Detroit suburbs and practically unlistenable in Ann Arbor. Toledo is hit or miss.

They are licensed at 500 watts by the way. I have no idea if they are running that as I live in one of the nulls where the signal has had weak points, especially at night.

For most of my life, I lived up at the top of the map, where I've drawn the red dot. Even up there, the CKWW signal is solid, during the day. But you need a good directional antenna to null out a local station up there on 560 KHZ.

In Sarnia 580 CKWW has always came in better than AM 1550 (now CBEF) which is 10,000 watts. CKWW also has less interference at night.

Umm... they used to broadcast more South. Now they null south. I'm thinking it was in the early 2000's.

They look like a right-sideways "Y" during the day, a right-sideways heart at night.

Another thought.... Iboc. Are they still HD?

Perhaps they were operating omni with reduced power a year or two ago. There were many reports of people hearing CKWW in much of the eastern US.

One night, they were suddenly highly directional (causing me to lose my favorite radio signal when at home).

Many BCB DX fans were posting CKWW to the DXworld logger when their signal was going out everywhere.

Monroe 560KHz is still horrible HD (on full-power days) and spilling onto 2 adjacent frequencies in Monroe County, and CKWW has been rough to listen to in the car in the Toledo area unlike when the format was on the Big8 at 50KW.

Has anyone noticed that CIMX has a very weak signal in Wood County now? Did they reduce there power? Before the format switch I got a decent signal, now it’s static.

WTPG did interfere with CIMX but not too much. Even in toledo I can barley pick CIMX, it’s not as strong as it was two months ago.

One doesn't have to worry about CIMX anymore, no matter where you reside there is no short supply in music consisting of twang and talk of "Honkey tonks" and " farm equipment". I suppose I could dust off my fiddle and make an attempt to learn it again, if the mood strikes me in a certain way but I very much doubt it.

No thank you Pinhead; Toledo already has 3 local country signals, plus can receive CFCO 630 during day pattern, so no shortage of country music in NW Ohio. A real true 'Classic Country' (60's and 70's crossovers and Willie, Johnny, etc...) station (similar to SXM 59) would be welcome though.
