Yeah if you're within a mile of the city's transmitters or have a tripolar antenna with quadrangular phrase harmonics. Otherwise not so much.

Perhaps some modern, appropriate receiving equipment might take care of that issue for you.
Works pretty well (but no, not always perfectly) for most of us, without needing the tripolar antenna with quadrangular phrase harmonics, or flux capacitors.

This is a little off topic, but remember in the early days of cell phones. A cell phone in the car required an externally mounted antenna. There were also dummy antennas for people who wanted to look like they had a cell phone.

So I would guess you had the “dummy antenna” just to look cool 😎. You know Turkey you could get a kids play cellphone to make it look like a real one so you can fool everyone wouldn’t that be neat.

Or, I could just get my cell phone back out of the drawer where I tossed it the day I retired. I could dress like middle class and pretend I'm calling someone. Talk really loud, just to annoy everyone else in the restaurant.

All kidding aside you do raise a good suggestion, and yes I do remember those antennas on vehicles back then. You weren’t able to afford the phone back then, but you can get the antenna for under $5. and it looked cool.

When cell phones first were introduced in Canada, the device cost well over $1000 and air time was priced in Dollars per minute.

My son is a tech for a cellphone company. He’s claiming that the data rates for 5G will sky rocket because more data will be used due to the faster speeds. He says you will be able to download a full length movie in just 2 minutes. People will use more data and the cellphone companies will cash in like they never had before. They don’t plan on giving data away for free. Most data packages will average $75. a month.

Cable TV, Internet access, cell phones and data plans, 10.00 a six pack designer beer and 5.00 coffee latte. All things our parents never had to pay for. No wonder the youngsters always complain they're broke.
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

The Walkman was really successful, but Sony dropped it anyway. Fortunately, I still have a few left. I also have a couple of copycat brands.

The best Sony Walkman is the SRF-59 AM /FM radio. What a sweet DX machine for AM Radio. Also The Sony SRF-49 and SRF-39 all great headphone radios. I have the SRF-59, SRF-56 which is FM only, The SRF-49 and SRF 39. These go for a ton of money on E-Bay some around $100. each.

I have it. It's a great radio. It's only weakness is the imprecise dial calibration. But it's only a $15 radio.

Pagers are used in doctor's offices and restaurants to alert people when they are ready. The medical office I go to uses them, (I can't tell you which one due to privacy.)
