What would the Bob format get you? Bob shares a chunk of its core playlist with 97.5/93.5 KLT, 98.1/95.3 The Bear, 98.5 UPS, and Eagle 101.5. And it's not very personality-driven... unless you count it's pre-recorded community calendar as being locally relevent? I'll put my money on Country as the format of choice, given TCM has turned it's simulcast signal over the KLT. Going Country allows them to compete with Black Diamond's WMKC 102.9 for the Petoskey/Charlevoix-area and pull dollars from across the rural areas between Petoskey and Traverse City that aren't going to muster the top of the market rates TCM garners. Not to mention they'll leverage the format as part of buys that that might be associated with KHQ. Think about it for a second... McDonald-Garber: CHR/AC/Country leverage trio versus Black Diamond: Country/Active Rock/Classic Rock leverage trio. From a strategic cluster perspective, it makes the best sense, as it potentially weakens a direct competitor (Black Diamond), while bolstering your own portfolio.
