Who dropped the hammer?
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
Re: Painful to watch
Leave it to 12 to put an anchor in Saginaw, in order to cover Flint better.
What’s next? Assign someone to city hall so they can cover sports?

I think it's an interesting idea, actually. Well executed? Not so much. I can't imagine this will stick for too long.
I have seen it done with the Entertainment Mags often.

Re: Painful to watch
Why did he say "...here in Flint" in the story? Did he drive all the way to Saginaw to pretend that he is in Flint? If you are trying to be a regional station, why do you even include "here in Flint" in your copy? I'm just a dumb viewer and I could have produced this better.
Do they say "Goodnight Chet/Goodnight David" at the end of every newscast?

Re: Painful to watch
WJRT had a Saginaw bureau for many years, where a reporter presented Tri-City-area news events from Saginaw instead of its reporters rushing back to Flint. While it may be redundant today due to improved technology, it harks back to the day when the distance between Saginaw and Flint would otherwise present delays in news gathering.
From eBay, here's a Bay City Times ad for Wayne Kemp, who reported for WJRT from Saginaw in 1968:

Gray should sell ABC 12. They don't appear to have the money to run it.
Re: Painful to watch
Say what you will about other stations, but 12 is in the worst possible position being owned by Gray.whitebalance wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 8:33 amGray should sell ABC 12. They don't appear to have the money to run it.
They don’t invest a dime on new tech, or bother to pony up money for repairing the old stuff. Their big push to automation will be the last money they see. Their sat and live trucks are obsolete. They are still using Dejeros.
Gray would have to sell 12 at a H*** loss.
Not gonna happen.

Re: Painful to watch
Gray's more better off owning stations in smaller markets, where they can utilise their resources for less without looking cheap -- not every market requires the same bells and whistles that WJRT would need to have.Beerbong wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 10:37 amSay what you will about other stations, but 12 is in the worst possible position being owned by Gray.whitebalance wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 8:33 amGray should sell ABC 12. Re: Painful to watch
At least 12 has a sat truck, drone, northern bureau, etc.
Sinclair and it’s local accountant in chief won’t invest those resources in 25-66.
12’s problem is that they lost practically all of their engineering and IT staff to 25-66, leading to lots of tech issues.

Proves that there are no new ideas. Just trying old ideas that are bound to fail again.

Re: Painful to watch
The split anchors looks ridiculous. Can Dawn Jones show any less enthusiasm?
Re: Painful to watch
I’m not sure why stations these days pay high priced anchors. For the amount they pay anchors, you could have 3 or 4 reporters and photographers out on the street doing real journalism. If 12 wanted to do something different, hire more reporters and do away with the anchor model.

Again. I’m truly at a loss as to why you aren’t in charge somewhere.sinklair wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 2:04 pmI’m not sure why stations these days pay high priced anchors. Beer: so am I. For the wisdom I provide here for free, imagine all the great work I would do getting the plush 6-figure salary that GMs currently rake in.
