I am confused as to why local channels have to emphasize news in their monikers. After all they are not a news network and the majority of their programming is NOT news.

Just a way to establish an identity
that’s different from the other guy. 12 has has so many identities they have schizophrenia.

5 has more gimmicks than the other stations combined, but it seems to work since they remain the dominant #1 station in the Flint-Saginaw DMA. I don’t get it, but it’s what works.

They may be #1, but only because viewers
are creatures of habit. It will take an act of God to get most people to change the news they watch.
Thankfully, that act of God is in the form of PV and SO.
Time will tell.

The latest strategy is simply “This is home! Jump! Jump!”

The visuals are what everyone thinks of when someone says, “Flint, Michigan.” Sledding. Lots of sledding. When anyone says “Flint, Michigan” the first thing everyone thinks of is not insoluble crime, crippling corruption in all public offices, record-breaking poverty, high school graduates in the single percentages, public access commercial television news operations, no. It’s SLEDDING!!!!

I think the gimmicks make 5's newscasts look like high school broadcasts. It's just cheap & cheesy. I too am confused why they are #1! But many stations have these gimmicks.

I would watch Wnem over the other two. For one Nbc25 never has local news, and if they do the other stations have already done it. ABC 12 is just having a way too many technical issues which makes it hard to watch them.
