AM1330 Drops Tigers
Cumulus has decided to not renew the radio contract for the Tigers for Sportstalk 1330. Flint doesn't have a radio home for the Tigers, but 97.1 does have a decent signal in the market.
turn up the radio! mighty in might!
Re: AM1330 Drops Tigers
I’m finding the Tigers listing of their radio affiliates isn’t accurate this year. Was up in the Cheboygan area and they listed a station up there carrying the Tigers (which I’d listened to also). Tuned in during the game and they weren’t on there.
Re: AM1330 Drops Tigers
The MLB page hasn’t been updated in years, as their Toledo station no longer exists!
Wonder if any other company will try to get the rights.

Really smart idea on Cumulus' part! They could play three hours of paint drying and get higher ratings.smallwonder wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 9:55 pmCumulus has decided to not renew the radio contract for the Tigers for Sportstalk 1330. Really? They are currently in first place. Yes, it’s early, but diehard fans will take it.
You’re also forgetting that 97.1 comes in best in a car in Flint. Building? Not so much

I recall a recent poll that found that 98% of Americans would rather split their own throats rather than listen to a second of baseball on the radio.Realist wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 7:16 amMatt wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 5:16 amReally smart idea on Cumulus' part! Guess what? I have no use for basketball but I don’t slam their fans for listening or watching it....
Re: AM1330 Drops Tigers
So I fall into the 2%...I'm OK with that. I actually listen to the radio crew if I'm watching on tv. (MLB.tv)

Re: AM1330 Drops Tigers
Hard to say if WSGW out of Saginaw, at 790 could be received on a table radio in Flint.
Re: AM1330 Drops Tigers
WSGW only comes in in extreme West Genesee County, and only in the Daytime. Remember that they have to minimize overlap with CKLW.
Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

97.7 WTGV is also an option for Lapeer County listeners. When their automation doesn't screw up, that is.

Re: AM1330 Drops Tigers
My guess is AM 1330 will either be sold to a minority or non-profit broadcaster or taken off the air altogether so that the underlying real estate can be sold. There's no way in hell that station is making much if any money.
Dumping the Tigers is a cost cutting move for a station whose ratings are near all time record lows.

DTE Energy paid $752 million in dividends to its shareholders last fiscal year. Remember that the next time they ask the MPSC to approve rate hikes.
Re: AM1330 Drops Tigers
I heard similar speculation last year about WDFN, about 1130 being a decrepit facility, the DA being "irreparable", and people wanting to buy it from Clear Channel by any other name, and move the TL, not knowing the regulatory nightmare it would involve. Remember that WFBE is now on the WTRX tower, and it would entail another WLAV situation if they tried to move that again. And there would seemingly be no clamor to buy land, as there are many properties available in the area. There are local owners in almost all Cumulus markets who would probably like to cherry pick the Cumulus facilities. They ought to complain to the FCC about Polnet in Evanston leaving their station on Day Pattern and/or power frequently. It makes what should be a low NIF, decent facility (5.8 mV/m NIF) unusable beyond a few miles at Night. That doesn't help with Baseball PBP vs. marginal FM signals from nearby markets.

Apologies; was completely unaware that WFBE and WTRX were co-located.Remember that WFBE is now on the WTRX tower, and it would entail another WLAV situation if they tried to move that again.
Well, I guess this was nothing more than a cost cutting move then.
