Better than top-5 in several women demos. Massive growth in mornings alone in one year. There are so many mistaken assumptions in this thread I need a scorecard to keep track of them. But, hey, if the standard on this board is, as mentioned a few posts ago, that everyone else in this thread agrees a change is needed, I guess the numbers don't matter. I stand corrected.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:34 pmI apologize for the crass tone of my earlier post. I'm going to hold fast to my viewpoint, however.

If Mix 106.3 is successful where it matters - that's cool, and I will be the one to stand corrected.
Of course, if you are referring to W18-24 or W18-34, a top 5 rank might not mean much. I've seen small market examples where 1 or 2 stations hold double or close to triple the share of stations ranked third or fourth.
W25-44 or W25-54? - now we're talking.
Brook and Jubal do seem to have an impressive track record. What they've done in Seattle is incredible. Their show even seems to do OK in Chicago, and not many syndicated morning shows on music stations have been able to say that.

I listened heavily to WIOG back in the 80's. A time when you knew all the songs they played...now I don't know what the hell is going on!
Re: WIOG is #1 in Saginaw-Bay City; WGER barely defeats Houghton Lake station
CK 105 was pretty good too back then as well.
Re: WIOG is #1 in Saginaw-Bay City; WGER barely defeats Houghton Lake station
Back in the first or second week of September of 1985, WRCI 93.5 FM went from Adult Contemporary to Country music until late January of 1986. That's when WKQZ (Z93.5) began in February 5, 1986 in Bullock Creek near the high school!!!
Re: WIOG is #1 in Saginaw-Bay City; WGER barely defeats Houghton Lake station
Then in August of 1988, WKQZ went from Z93.5 FM to Z93.3 FM!! Same time the Ziwaukee bridge opened!!!
Re: WIOG is #1 in Saginaw-Bay City; WGER barely defeats Houghton Lake station
Wasn't there a station The Blitz? I remember listening to that along with Z93.
Re: WIOG is #1 in Saginaw-Bay City; WGER barely defeats Houghton Lake station
I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that The Blitz was what is now WLUN 100.9 FM (and was also "Foxy 101" in the early 80s), and was a simulcast of 104.5 FM prior to becoming "Wheelz."

You are correct.

Now that we have a classic country station in Midland, what’s the format hole in the Tri Cities? Classic Hits / 80’s is all I’m thinking of....
Re: WIOG is #1 in Saginaw-Bay City; WGER barely defeats Houghton Lake station
Keep in mind that a 250 watt translator is no where near a full market signal. Translators were never intended to be full market signals. You would need another one centered in Saginaw, and another one centered in Bay City, with the same simulcast format, to be anywhere near a full market signal. Now that we have a classic country station in Midland, what’s the format hole in the Tri Cities? About 1969, our Marching Band traveled to Midland and performed at the Stadium a few blocks from the WMPX tower. It's only about 170 feet high, and as the bus passed the tower, I noticed that fact.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

So, if it’s only 250 watts, it sounds like Gladwin’s 103.1 WGDN and their classic country format would still come in better in Bay City and Saginaw....

Realistically, probably. There are other factors like terrain that aren't addressed by Section 73.333.

I think the whole translator situation is damaging to the FM Band. I'm not against AM stations moving to FM, but it has to be done in a better way, like a small additional FM Band, with much more than 250 watts, like 1 kW/100 meters. Back when TV channels were dropping in, like this, Maximum Service Telecasters was born. New stations had to apply for UHF rather than squeezing in to VHF 2-13. The FM band needs to expand, to go back to Maximum Service FMs.

Re: WIOG is #1 in Saginaw-Bay City; WGER barely defeats Houghton Lake station
Indeed it does. I was just in Bay City today, helping a friend with a garage sale. 103.1 WGDN was solid with no fading. 107.7, not so much. 96.5 from Gladwin (WGDN-AM's translator) was coming in at about the same signal strength as 107.7. Later in the day, I'm not sure if 107.7 was off the air, but I was picking up a very faint WHSB from Alpena instead. At that point I was getting WMMI's 92.3 translator, but not WMPX's. WMPX of course comes in very well in Bay City, but with the '80s/'90s lean of their playlist they seem to not be going after listeners who grew up listening to AM.
