Newspaper Website Redesign
Newspaper Website Redesign
The Detroit News and Free Press have redesigned their websites again. Here's how it is explained in today's Detroit News:
"We have switched over from the design you’ve seen for the last five years to something simpler, cleaner, and – we think – easier for you to get the content you’re looking for. It will also more closely reflect our mobile and app platforms, meaning all readers get the same great experience regardless of how they get to us."

When the websites were last redesigned in 2014, here's what they wrote:
"Our redesigned Web and mobile sites both feature a dynamic, high-impact presentation of The News, taking full advantage of our award-winning photography and growing array of video and multimedia. We've streamlined our navigation, updated the local weather report and added prominent quick links to some of our most popular pages. We'll be showcasing our columnists and our photo galleries to make sure it's easy to find the best content on our homepage."

For commentary, I'll refer you to Ecclesiastes 1:9.

Re: Newspaper Website Redesign
Maybe I'm the only one but I just don't like to watch a video when getting my news. I prefer to read an actual news story. I don't need a 30-second news clip preceded by a 15 second ad.

Especially when they pop up on their own, and you've got to figure out where the sound's coming from.iloveblackpeople wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 8:57 pmMaybe I'm the only one but I just don't like to watch a video when getting my news. I despise when I open a story to read and it’s a video.

The videos just read out exactly what the articles say, so lazy people don't have to be inconvenienced by words

Many stories have no text. Video is the only option. I rarely watch a video. But I’m also the guy who grumbles when someone makes me watch a video on YouTube that they think is hilarious. lol
Re: Newspaper Website Redesign
I hate both sites, with their stealth pop ups etc. I have left in frustration many times, yet I still come back....

I get extremely grumpy when someone tells me about this "funny video I need to watch"... yet I do the same thing to others.

Re: Newspaper Website Redesign
Newspaper videos are just bad. Please stop!
As to the funny video watching: I was at the gym today, and the person working there was chatting with Loud Guy and then they started watching comedians on video on her phone. It was irritating. Especially Loud Guy. That guy is always in the gym, it seems. Have you ever listened to a podcast or an audiobook with the setting on 1.5X the speed? That's how this guy talks. Good think I don't carry a weapon.
