Re: Can You Figure Out What This Is?

Yes, light "pollution", which is basically city lights. Finally figured it out when I spotted the "delta" of Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland. They are slightly separated from Flint, Pontiac, Ann Arbor, and Toledo, which are continuous with Detroit. You see Cleveland, Lansing, Toronto, Grand Rapids, a...

So our new hobby is deep sea diving, after watching Lloyd Bridges on late night reruns on an X.33 sub channel in 240 line monochrome resolution?

Can You Figure Out What This Is?

Not a weather map. Not a signal map. Not a cell phone related map. It IS a contour map of sorts.

We were given the link at a recent presentation at a local library. It was supposed to aid us in pursuing a new hobby.

More New Outdoor Antenna Options, And The TV Antenna With Red Light

My neighbor has an amplified antenna on his roof with a red light. I just noticed it tonight. I can't see it well, but it has a driven folded dipole for High VHF, a small UHF parabolic reflector, and several UHF directors that I can see in the dark. Never saw one with a light before. I'll look at it...

CFCO translator on 92.9 loud and clear in Rochester, Michigan. What receiver and antenna are you using? I used to hear it, when it was 50 watts, on a MR-80 with a 10 element Archer FM-10. Before IBOC on WDRQ , and the Grand Ledge station on the Olds Tower, WLMI as I recall, CFCO-1-FM, WDRQ moved to...

I met Mickey Golden about the same time that I met Jim Harper. They seemed surprisingly different from each other.

Sylvia's Mother - Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show This song may seem melodramatic, but it's an accurate depiction of the reality of the angst of a jilted young man, if he has any human emotion at all. Interview with Sylvia Pandolfi's mother, and Sylvia, about Shel Silverstein, and his failure to launc...

Ken Monicatti (the car dealer) was also involved in WCLS. Was it the Car Dealer or the advertising family from Romeo? We met the advertising Monicattis, and they corrected us that they were not the car dealer family. I assume they are related though. As I recall, the Romeo Monicattis were part of o...

This one is apparently difficult one to photograph also. Note this is at an angle, and is clear. I was disillusioned to find out that it had no RF Amplifier Stage, after thinking I wanted one for years.

Re: Could the radio DJ be gone someday?

This is happening in all industries, no matter how indispensable people think they are. It will become an ever increasing problem. There are no perfect solutions. In "The Year 2525" by Zager and Evans are the lines, You won't find a thing to do (sic) Some machine's doing that for you. Closer to the ...

I think you're right, Jim Harper and Lorraine Golden owned 99.5 it for a while, and Jim did Mornings. I remember meeting him and talking to him for a while when he did a Lottery Drawing at Winchester Mall. It was in the 1980s. Wasn't it Bob Liggett that built the tower near 10 Mile and Greenfield, n...

Cheap $17 portable radio with 7-band SW from Menards; how well does it work?

Thanks. That Satellite 2400 is apparently just about impossible to photograph without reflections. I wonder if a Polaroid filter would work. You might have to experiment with the filter rotation, if that even works. Maybe lay the radio horizontally and use the Polaroid filter. I think that would def...

CK - that was me who posted that - been quite a while back now. Was Grundig Satellit 2400-SL. http://www.radiocorner.de/candies/satel ... g_6759.jpg (that isn't mine but same model). Quite a bit larger than my Panasonic and in FM stereo. Very similar reception between the 2 radios, though the Grund...

Re: Songs with Girl or Guy Names in the Title

Someone should have done a parody called "A Lawyer Named Sue". Actually, the Shel Silverstein/Johnny Cash song is quite likely inspired by a real male lawyer and judge named Sue K. Hicks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sue_K._Hicks Should also include a few lines from "My Favorite Things". When the d...
