Re: Roy H Selling Off?

What station did he own in Escanaba? During his last Northern Michigan docket proposal (which would have moved 99.3 [then WOUF] to the Kalkaska tower used by WPBN/WGTU/WCMV, with WATZ moving to 101.5, WMJZ moving to 97.1, and a few new drop-ins on 99.1 (Alpena and Au Gres) and 99.5 (Shelby)), WGLQ ...

Re: Roy H Selling Off?

I don't see how you could avoid interference fringes, as radio signals are coherent. With enough sources, you might be able to have every point so that it vectorially doesn't cancel completely, but it still seems to violate the Laws of Physics to avoid fringes completely. The same applies to booster...

Re: WTCM-FM 103.5, etc.

So what is the plan for WCCW 1310? Are they going to relocate near Morgan Hill, or at the WTCM 580 site? They already have the entire Proof of Performance for WTCM conductivities for that site from circa 1981. If they could hook it up with one of the unneeded translators where full power FMs are now...

Re: WTCM-FM 103.5, etc.

Took a picture of that translator tower while in Rochester. One is for KROC 1340, one is for KROC-FM, the TL (TL of former coowned TV station KROC-TV to cover parts of Iowa) of which is way far out and doesn't put a 70 dBu over all of present day Rochester, and another for a "suburban" rimshot, KYBA...

Max Crook, Michigan "Musitron" Inventor And Keyboardist, Has Passed Away

Max Crook, who invented the “Musitron” by extensively modifying an electric organ, has passed away, July 1, 2020. It was famously played by Max in the 1961 hit song “Runaway” by Del Shannon. Shannon, born Charles Westover, from Coopersville in West Michigan, met up with Max Crook at Western Michigan...

Under Construction-100 Oldest Radio Stations In The US

This Page Is Under Construction-Old List Poster's Note: MANY STATIONS BEGAN AS EXPERIMENTAL STATIONS. The dates shown here are when they were licensed as commercial stations. The experimental histories are very incomplete. But when you see a station that claims it was licensed before 1920, it was ex...

Re: Misheard Song Lyrics

Both Sides Now Written by Joni Mitchell. Hit performance by Judy Collins. Sometimes, the misheard lyric is as valid or more valid than the actual lyric So many things I would have done But clowns got in my way... If you're confused by the clarity and truth of the misheard song lyric, "clowns" is act...

Elton John and the Bread and Beer Band-Quick Joey Small (Instrumental)

I had heard of this before, but I never heard it. "Quick Joey Small" (instrumental) by Elton John and the Bread and Beer Band from 1969. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIHyFJgxkX8 The original vocal version was written and sung by Joey Levine as "Quick Joey Small (Run Joey Run)" by The Kasenetz Kat...

Re: Upward Mobility

In an un-credited role, that is my Dad. He first is heard on a car radio as Reeve is driving north on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. As I recall, Dad reads a forecast then jingles out into a jazz format. But the jingle is country and very twangy. Dad is heard again when Reeves awakens in the Grand Ho...

Reese, people have asked, is that your father doing news on WJJD in the movie "Somewhere In Time", when the lead character played by the late Christopher Reeve, returns to Chicago from Mackinac Island?

Re: WDTP 89.5/90.1

It's done with contour overlap studies. It's always been permitted, at least on AM. WRDT and CKWW, WRDT and CBEF, even WNZK and the vacant CHYR allotment has those contour overlap considerations. CJFT 530 and WGR 550 is another. Canada has been doing this more and more in recent years with new borde...

Re: Fixed Frequency AM radios

Even if they decoupled the knob from the tuning shaft, if there's a will there's a way. You could get inside and retune it. I used to have a lot of problems with slide rule dials. I tuned them so much that they stopped working in various ways. On one, the dial cord broke and until I fixed it, I reac...

The WWV Song (5-10-15-20-25-30...). Actually, they did operate on 30 MHz (and 35 MHz ) until 1953. When they do their "TOH" ID, I always expect them to break into this song.

Re: Fixed Frequency AM radios

I remember FM radios like that. The Flint Board Of Education put FM radios in the schools without functional PA systems that only tuned in WFBE 95.1. I'm sure that somewhere there was a tuning shaft of some description, but it wasn't easily accessible. Probably there was a hole in the back that you ...
