Re: WDFN nights

On an AM Radio group on Facebook, someone in western Massachusetts yesterday (4/20) reported hearing nighttime interference from WDFN to Bloomberg's NYC WBBR 1130, usually solid at his location. Much like listeners in metro Detroit, he had never heard WDFN before, much less at night, Someone forget...

Re: So many 50 kW AM signals

For a while, WOWO had an application to increase Night power to 15 kw Night. It would have favored Michigan. The WCHB/WMUZ 1200 50/15 DA-2 and the WLXX 1200 in Chicago complicated it.

Re: Source: Cumulus Detroit is for sale...

WJR has a better signal for all areas except close in in the major lobe of WWJ. It's the programming, but not just Right vs. Left. WJR's News could be a lot better. That would help their ratings a lot. Where I hang out, WJR has twice the Field Strength as WWJ. They used to be close to equal to WJR w...

Re: Source: Cumulus Detroit is for sale...

A big part of WLS's problem is its signal in the Northern half of the Market. In the really old days, 1930s to WW II and post WW II until 1960 when they went Top 40, the market to the South of Mokena/Tinley Park was a big part of their business. WVON 1450 was just 250 watts Night, WGRT/WJPC 950 was ...

He said they were all right. I have a line on one at the Radio Shack in Charlevoix. Keep looking though.

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

It's my belief that "conditions" are dragging the 99.3 signal inland on some days. There's no way it's broadcasting from anywhere near Traverse City. :blink Maybe they're broadcasting from a hot air balloon. Or from a pirate ship in Grand Traverse Bay? When broadcasting from a ship in Grand Travers...

Schematic Diagram For Realistic STA-111

Does anyone have any ideas for finding a schematic for a Realistic STA-111 Receiver? The relay system for preventing the amplifiers from being overloaded from shorts and other impedance mismatch overload is malfunctioning, and no one seems to know where to find them. I've talked to a former Radio Sh...

Re: Casey Kasem WJBK 1957

I'd have to look at the History Card. I think it was 10 kW Day and 1 kW Night on 1500 kHz. Before that, until 1956 as I recall, they were 250 watts Day and Night nondirectional on 1490 kHz from Highland Park.

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

In the past, there was a rule that if you had a transmitting site that was peculiarly suited to broadcast stations, the owner, even a competing signal, had to make the site available to competitors. Based on what you said, the (I still want to call it the WZZM-FM or WZZR tower) WLHT/WFGR site is so ...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

WLAV-FM had arguably the third best Commercial FM facility in Grand Rapids. Canada uses an "Average" ERP for DAs instead of the Maximum ERP in any direction. That would probably be in the vicinity of 22 kW for this DA. That makes it more apparent. I'll try to post a copy of the pattern. But keep in ...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

Cumulus is making a grave mistake. At the very least, I would license the new facility, and immediately file an APP for something close to the old site, hopefully investigating a new site in the meantime. Unless you do extreme diligence on a DA, your'e going to lose something. WHNN's DA *MIGHT* be ...

Re: WLAV Tower Relocation

Found another possible upgrade contingent on move. Haven't found a possible new allotment. Like you say, it's too jammed up to find too many possible upgrades.

I won't tell anybody, but are you sure you don't want to try harder near the old site?

Re: So many 50 kW AM signals

If you used , as a starting point, the corner of 135th St. and 7th ave, in Harlem. Run a radius of 8.5 miles out from that point, and scribe a circle around there, That circle would enclose all eleven of NYC's 50 kilowatt radio station transmiter/antenna sites. Now the Question is, do I have too mu...

Casey Kasem WJBK 1957

An inspiration for American Top 40? After playing hundreds of thousands of 2:00 to 3:00 minute tracks, Casey came up with the idea of a lifetime.

Re: WUNN To Move To AM 1100

Mistakes perpetuate themselves. If this was a CP to change frequencies, it would show on CDBS as such. It would have exhibits on the APP. I've heard of Consulting Engineers trying to pull a fast one, but I don't think this is one of those. Of course, there is KTGG, Spring Arbor, Minnesota, because a...
