Re: WTVN 610

The CBEF 540 array was a 4 tower right angle parallelogram (in other words a rectangle, like WIND 560 just before you enter Chicago from INDiana, the original meaning of the callsign), but with two sets of two unequal height towers. It's still in the database. You could see it from the Bob Lo Boat. ...

Re: WTRX

With the Day facilities of WKTA, the maximum skywave return right around SR and SS from WKTA would be about 3 mV/m. One time, over by Bob Eastman's house on Greenbrook, after pattern change at WTRX, I taped the Signoff of WEAW, about 3 miles from WTRX, where the Night null was very deep due to refle...

Re: WWV

Many days, you have the pilot frequencies of the expanded band AM BC much of the day, and particularly during CH. Sometimes, they may be weak but identifiable with a long wire. If the X Band is up, 160 meters is likely to be more so. Many days, the first stations I hear are the 1610, 1650, and 1690 ...

Re: 1470 WFNT

You can hear the WAMM sign off from December, 1965 on the unscoped Jim Taylor Hampton (of later WLS fame) tape of his Stevie Wonder interview. And if you listen, yes, it was actually 70 degrees on that December day. The sign off was at 5:00 P.M. Listen to the unscoped interview. It's a classic. From...

Re: WTVN 610

The WTAC 600 Array at G-6171 S. Center Rd. was not a typical parallelogram with two two tower patterns multiplied together, rather, it was two patterns added together vectorially. The layout is a parallelogram. That is what has Carl E. Smith written all over it. He analyzed the WGAR (WHKW) 1220 in t...

Re: WTRX

WKTA 1330 Evanston has well protected 1330 stations in every direction. That's why the low power and multiple towers. At one time, they were going to try to shoot it North over WHBL Sheboygan with 500 watts with 1/2 wavelength plus towers near the WCGO 1590 Night Array, but I guess it either clipped...

Happy St. Pat's Day! Irish Ancestry Databases Free! Royal Pains? Next Gen Ancestry DNA!

Ever notice what a profound effect Ancestry DNA, 23 and Me, etc. are having on our lives? The Irish Ancestry DNA Database accesses are free this weekend. Why? It's St. Patricks Day! Notice lately that a lot of people are acting like Royal Pains? Maybe they have found out how their family branch fits...

Re: WWV

I actualy use WWV to set my clocks and watch now and then, When I plan to do some radio operating I check WWV and CHU on their several frequencies to see how propagation is, simply , by checking signal strength of the stations. I heard the marine WX forecast and storm warnings will be ended. I was ...

Re: 1470 WFNT

WAMM/WFLT has always seemed to care about keeping things "up to snuff", as I understand that Gerry Wolpert used to say. When you only have 500 watts to work with, you tend to keep the transmitter working at full power. Also the thing about sounding louder goes way back. I think Chris Peeters told me...

Re: WTRX

I suspect that they have issues with the DA. A few weeks ago, they were on omni and WCHB 1340 turned off their IBOC. About 5 PM, they put it back to DA, and WCHB turned their IBOC back on. I assumed that to do DA proofs or null azimuth proofs, they apparently asked Crawford to do this. They were bla...

Re: Anyone Observe WCXI Or WPON Testing Activity?

I looked up the RL coordinates on that neat new ham FCC site. Here are the distances and azimuths of nearby stations, less than 25 miles away. WDEO 990 23.4 [email protected].7 DEGREES. WCAR 1090 18.7 [email protected].2 DEGREES WCXI 1160 CP 5.3 [email protected].7 DEGREES WCXI 1160 L 20.1 [email protected].6 DEGREES WDTW 1310 25.0 MI...

Re: Anyone Observe WCXI Or WPON Testing Activity?

WFNT 1470 is owned by Townsquare. They may have fixed their transmitter, as I am getting it better too, for the last few days. WTRX 1330 is owned by Cumulus. The WTRX signal is so buried in WEXL IBOC sidebands to the South, that I think they have to get Crawford to turn the WEXL IBOC off to do full ...

Re: Monday Morning News

Oh wait you sent that song, lol. Yay! Is it just me, or would it look funny if Stevie Nicks was holding a knife in her other hand on that "Rumours" album cover? LMAO, that would totally change the entire meaning of that pic. In a very disturbing way Normally, I wouldn't subscribe to this theory, bu...
