Re: Antenna Man

I bought a couple of those "overpriced pieces of junk" at a Salvation Army for $5 each. These were the blade type in an unopened "As Seen On TV" package that attached directly to the back of the TV (no cord). These were really junk and did not work at all. I was disappointed as I was hoping they wou...

Employee A: Yes, he was not at fault according to the police. If anyone, the foreman should have been fired for putting his life in danger (using poor judgement). Employee B: Yes, as there was no evidence such as not seeing (a photo would be ideal) the actual beverage. It could have been non-alcohol...

Re: My YouTube "At Work" Playlist

A rather inexpensive way to get started is to buy something like the C.Crane FM transmitters: https://ccrane.com/digital-fm-transmitter-2-for-sending-near-broadcast-quality/ I have two of these, one for over 10 years. They are on 24/7/365 and continue to work great. You can increase output power by ...

Re: Happy 100th Birthday 8MK / WBL / WWJ

Isn't KDKA the only radio station east of the Mississippi to start with K? Just remembered (or I think I remember) that being the case. If you are asking about current stations, there are many exceptions. The closest to us is KTGG (Okemos, MI). From Michiguide.com: "1984: Call sign KTGG assigned in...

Re: Are Section 73.239 and Section 73.635 Being Enforced?

Another great tool I use for tower hunting and also what station is broadcasting from a drive-by tower, is Google Earth (download) with the FCCInfo.com plugin. All of this is free. There are several ways to search stations (AM, FM, and TV). By clicking in a checkbox, it will show ASR Towers and you ...

Re: WXLA 1170

Haven't seen an AM stereo receiver marketed since the 90's. Do they even make 'em anymore? To my knowledge, only in Japan. However, some HD receivers are capable of CQUAM AM stereo. Here is a link to the AM stereo website (click on Receivers to see the list): http://www.amstereo.org/ . I have the D...

Re: WXLA 1170

WXLA sounded great when they were in stereo. It was shut off when they redid their transmitter site to make way for HD in case it was decided to go that route.

Thanks websurferdude! I'll try using your info and see what it turns up. The only other celebrity I recall in it was Mel Farr. This was when he was selling cars as "Mel Farr Superstar".

Re: Biggest tech device flops of the past 25 years!!!

I did not know CFCO was still in AM Stereo. What’s your 20 to be able to receive CFCO so well. My 20 is in Blackman Twp northwest of Jackson. It's the SRF-42 that really pulls the stations in on the AM band; FM not so much. It's the only radio I have that receives WION and WOAP from here. The last ...

For a search engine, use Dogpile (https://www.dogpile.com/). I've been using it 20+ years and it finds things when Google hasn't.

Re: Biggest tech device flops of the past 25 years!!!

My Walkman collection is an SRF-39, SRF-49, and SRF-42. The SRF-42 radio is far better than the other two with better DXing and, or course, the AM Stereo feature. The problem with it is the manual tuning dial trying to tune into the center of the signal to get the full stereo sound on AM. Since I've...

Re: The Ghost Of Bill Kennedy

I remember seeing Bill Kennedy in a locally made comedy movie that aired on TV4 (IIRC) back in the 80's. The movie featured many Detroit celebrities and was about the first Thanksgiving feast with the pilgrims and native Americans. I remember both groups sitting together and watching Bill Kennedy. D...

You had to make me drag them out...lol. Actually I have not had them out for a few years and was thinking about them not too long ago. Both are made by MetroSonix, but no model/serial on them. Both have the manual tuner dial covered, one "The Children's Sonshine Network" and the other with most of t...
