Re: WJR at 500 kW Transmitter Power with Directional Antenna (1950s proposal)

When I was visiting the FL Keys a few winters ago, there was a strong signal on 760 from, I believe, a station in the Tampa/St Pete area ! Heard many stations in NYC and Chicago though ! Yes! The 760 station in Tampa must throw their entire 1kw towards the SSW at night with nearly nothing going Nor...

Re: WJR at 500 kW Transmitter Power with Directional Antenna (1950s proposal)

Even today WJR has a very good and steady signal in central FL at night! Not a lot of fading and little to no co-channel either! Same down there with WLW. Good enough to enjoy either stations night & overnight programming.

Art Van's Weekend Oldies parties on WOAP

Sorry, just getting 'wistful' about the memory of those highly entertaining and massively enjoyable "Weekend Oldies Parties" that were hosted by the enormously talented and humorous Art Van on Owosso's WOAP-1080! RIP, old Friend. Used to listen to him in Rockford, MI and sometimes drove over to the ...

Everyone knows that 'Chili' is a common surname, right?

'Radio' is my own replacement for 'Boris'! Damned screwy parents I had!

I miss the 'Art Van' who used to play oldies on WOAP in Owosso on weekends back in like 2001-2006ish!

Re: WLLA adds another sub Channel...

The WLLA signal certainly HAS gone from 'feeble' to 'butt-kicking! It's now always 'there', solid and strong in Newaygo! 60 air miles.

Others with 5 bar signals up here are WXMI, WZPX, WOTV and WTLJ.

Re: WGVU TV weaker up North since the last repack?

Radio Chili, can you get 9&10 at all? I would imagine in Oceana County (which is in the Grand Rapids DMA in part due to 29&8 being an (historically) awful station [according to TV Factbooks in the 70s and into the 80s, 7&4 and 9&10 were more popular in Oceana County than WOTV or WKZO]), 9&10 was (a...

WGVU TV weaker up North since the last repack?

They were strong in Newaygo County but now they're weak up here! 5 bars has dropped to 2 bars! Anyone know why? Everything else is just as good as they were up here with exception of WWMT & WOOD which have both completely disappeared from my TV sets. Those two have never been very good up here (1-3 ...

Re: Worst-sounding radio stations of all-time.

A more modern horror story might well be the radio station in Rockford, MI on 810. Under the original owner and licensee, Jack LePayne it was the most distorted, low-mod, tinny sounding, low-budget thing ever! And that's speaking only of the audio quality! Programming was worse! It was goofy as Hell...

Re: Loud and Proud, WLAV back to 100%

If you mean Newaygo city, are you listening from up on the hill (south of town) or down low in the valley? Lots of stations struggle near the M-37 / Muskegon River bridge. Closer still to 'LAV's transmitter site! On Hess Lake, 2 miles to the southeast of town. With a 2 foot piece of wire dangling i...
