Iosco county forest fire burns out of control

6,000 acres burned up thus far.
This one hits very close to home for me. And what bothers me is that while a lot of different media outlets are reporting this story, I can't find a single media outlet asking the tough question of what genius thought it was a good idea to do a "controlled burn" on a warm, windy day during a moderate drought? We've had very little rain this way for weeks now, and there are all kinds of burning bans. This controlled burn absolutely should NOT have been allowed to go forward under yesterday's conditions, and IMO someone or some people need to be held appropriately accountable. Regular citizens end up in jail for causing this kind of damage.

Re: Iosco county forest fire burns out of control
Kinda like how we "protect the environment" by filling up reservoirs behind dams that were knowingly not able to function correctly in the event something went wrong.
Kinda like how we "save money" by switching a municipal water supply to a different source without knowing the damage it would cause.
Only thing that's certain around here is that no matter who is running our State govt, or who is in charge of any particular dept at any given moment, the next easily avoided disaster is right around the corner.

The flaw of having humans involved... we really ought to do something about the pesky humans some time.Robert Faygo wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 12:50 pmKinda like how we "protect the environment" by filling up reservoirs behind dams that were knowingly not able to function correctly in the event something went wrong.

As a State of Michigan employee, I will tell you to get your facts straight about this fire. The controlled burn was started by the US Forest Service (a Federal Government agency), NOT any State of Michigan department. All of the area where the initial burn was is Federal Forest land.Robert Faygo wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 12:50 pmOnly thing that's certain around here is that no matter who is running our State govt, or who is in charge of any particular dept at any given moment, the next easily avoided disaster is right around the corner.

Thanks for that clarification.
Appreciated.
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.

This is why IGNORANCE OF HISTORY is a very bad thing.
1911 Oscoda AuSable Forest Fire.

It really makes you wonder if it was set, not as a controlled burn, but to advance the global warming agenda.

My apologies. Made an ass out of myself assuming it was the DNR.Constant Listener wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 10:51 pmAs a State of Michigan employee, I will tell you to get your facts straight about this fire. Idiocy abounds again. Both from the trolls and the idiots who did a controlled burn in April.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

Yes, but it started "controlled".

Re: Iosco county forest fire burns out of control
From what I heard, the original "controlled" burn area was 2,000 acres in size. That sounds like an awfully large area to me to try to do a controlled burn in any time of year under any weather conditions, let alone during a drought on a windy day.
