Re: WNWZ - Great questions, CK -722.
It might be a combination of African American households being underrepresented, sloppy programming (104.9 has done some incredibly moronic things with its programming lately), and the LPFM on 97.3 making great strides in terms of improving signal, audio fidelity and programming,
Case in point with regard to 104.9's stupidity: putting a sports talk show hosted by a couple 18 or 19 year olds on the air in the early afternoon. That's a great way to send all the cume to the exits.

I ran across the "Redlining" maps for Michigan. I compared the map data wth the 70 dBu contour of the WNWZ translator. A very close match. They should be able to attract some really decent ratings with some kind of an Urban format. Townsquare could do to Cumulus in Grand Rapids what Cumulus is doing to Townsquare in Flint with WDZZ vs. WCRZ.
Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

WNWZ did attract great ratings before altering their programming (and before 97.3 making improvements). They were up to a 3.4 share in ages 12+! Some 50,000 watt signals in the market attract only half as much AQH share.
I don't understand that statement; Cumulus has no Urban format of any kind on the air in Grand Rapids. WNWZ is owned by Townsquare.Townsquare could do to Cumulus in Grand Rapids what Cumulus is doing to Townsquare in Flint with WDZZ vs. WCRZ.

WDZZ consistently has been the #1 station for several years now over WCRZ. Not comparing apples to oranges, just the ratings and rankings. To ANY of Cumulus' properties.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2019 8:42 amWNWZ did attract great ratings before altering their programming (and before 97.3 making improvements). Re: Spring 2019 Nielsen Audio Quarterly Report (Updated: 07-23-19)
Thanks for clarifying.
You're right. Personally, I thought Cumulus whiffed by not putting Urban AC on 105.3. In effect, that would've been an extension of their successful V100 brand to a broader regional audience.
Probably too late to do that now; the Urban radio pie in GR is too heavily fragmented.
The much smarter play today would be throwback hip-hop and R&B, since such a format would appeal to whites and African Americans alike. Such a format would predominantly compete with WSNX. And I think it would do so much more effectively than the current day WHTS.

I wonder if by adding a translator to an Urban Gospel AM station and combining that to a sort of “Urban AC Gospel” format that it could have a ratings appeal similar to WCSG. Or would that only work in Grand Rapids?

I'm not going to pay several hundred dollars for a Nielsen subscription just so I can "do my homework."
Not my fault Cumulus is too cheap to purchase an additional subscription so that the data can be published publicly. You're right; would be great to see the full book.
If you are telling us the 1.8 share truly pertains to Blunder 107.3, then that is a catastrophe for Cumulus' country brand locally.
I do sorta like 94.5's programming, so if they are indeed performing well in the ratings - then I'm pleased to hear it.
