Just for the record, I think it is silly to put a sitting President on any coin.

But it is only fair to point out that the law that allowed this to happen was passed in 2020, by unanimous consent, and was originally sponsored and introduced by a Democrat (Barbara Lee of California).

It is also fair to point out that there is precedent for this (albeit not for the President). Sitting, living politicians have been featured on commemorative coins before - mainly in the 1920s and 1930s.
