WCCW's wandering format

Unread post by TC Talks »

This winter, WCCW evolved from Good Time Rock and Roll to "Good Vibes" as a way to move up the age of their playlist.

I was listening today while driving for a while, and they are now going straight in LITE territory. In theory, Z93 captures younger KHQ listeners and CCW goes after Lite's audience. In practice, it's a smorgasbord of chick songs rather than a curated playlist of female scewing music. The all old guy roster adds just a hint of cringe to the mix. At least they are trying something.

Anyone have other thoughts about it?

That's interesting... I guess they are trying to stay somewhat relevant? WCCW never was a big station when I was growing up, and as I recall, was Oldies (50s - 70s).

Playlist looks like straight up classic hits to me.

Probably a bit more yacht rock in the playlist than a typical classic hits station, though.

The lady who reads the imaging liners does not sound good on the radio. She gives the station a low budget feel.

Prior to the rebrand, I thought 107.5 very much sounded like a station for old fart retirees. The current playlist should appeal to a much broader audience. My guess is they are seeking to snatch share from 104.5 as well as 96.3 / 96.7.
