Short notice, but I saw Peter Werbe’s Facebook post that there will be a WABX reunion Saturday, March 15th at the Eastside Record Show inside the Elk’s Club in Warren. Podell, Kostan, St James, Mayer, Santoni, Wilson, and Fowler will join Peter Werbe.
Podell will host from 12-2 PM, and the record show goes from 8 AM-4 PM. Early admission from 8-10 AM: $10, general admission $3 from 10-4.
Peter Werbe will also be signing his book, “A Summer on Fire” which chronicles the Detroit uprising in the 1960s.

I'm in FL for the foreseeable future; sorry to miss it. I miss too many of these sorts of things.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 7:44 pm Short notice, but I saw Peter Werbe’s Facebook post that there will be a WABX reunion Saturday, March 15th at the Eastside Record Show inside the Elk’s Club in Warren.
Sadly, John Detz, formerlly of WABX and to whom some referred to as the 'Father of AOR', passed away in his Hawaiian home this past fall. He and I were neighbors on Maui for a while and had a lot of great talks about Detroit radio history. He would have loved to attend and I think many would equally loved to have him there.

The box that many broadcasters won’t look outside of was made in 1969 and hasn’t changed significantly since.

Date correction, Saturday is March 14. Sounds really cool and a lot of fun. I remember trying to listen to 99.5 WABX from Toledo, especially on summer evenings when it came in loud and clear.

I wonder if any of them have a pristine copy of "Leftoverture" by Kansas.

I attended, was a good show. Werbe was selling copies of his books, one of them I bought as I was a fan of Nightcall and it is closely tied to the discussions he had on the show. when asked "with all that is going on in the world, it must be driving you nuts" the facial expressions said enough.
as for the rest of the ABX crowd, I was too young to have any solid memories of the format before it went to "New Music" and then the format wheel for many years. was a good crowd and Doug is doing great with this show.
