A Personal Update: Moving toward a new “What’s Next”
I’m writing to share that I am stepping away from my role at FOX-17.
Returning to the airwaves a year and a half ago after my initial retirement was a wonderful “second act,” but recent months have brought a perspective that only life’s biggest moments can provide.
This past winter was particularly intense. While our Chief Meteorologist was on leave, I stepped back into a full-time rhythm, working nearly every day through a relentless stretch of winter storms. During that same window of time, I navigated the deep personal loss of my mother, who became ill and passed away.
It was a powerful reminder that life is short. During my time at FOX-17, I’ve also had great personal celebrations…welcoming three new grandchildren in three different states—bringing my total to five, with another on the way! Because of the busy weather season, I haven’t even had the chance to meet my newest grandson yet.
So, my first order of business? A flight to Seattle for some long-overdue snuggles with the newest member of the family.
I am so proud of the work we did, and I leave knowing the FOX-17 weather team is in great hands. The entire team is truly “the best in the business”, especially those “unsung heroes” who work tirelessly behind the scenes. As for me, I’m looking forward to exploring my “what’s next”!

So will WXYZ start covering weather reporting for Grand Rapids now? Or no one just AI reading a weather report from the Nation Weather Service and pictures of the weather maps then throw to some reporter in the field for the next sory coming up. This station is a joke. With us going to two sources for News and Weather on Local Linear this is not good. Nextstar or this hot mess. Please Byron Allen buy TV13 so we keep some choices here in town.
