Re: Dennis The Menace dies
Jay North made a great cultural contribution with his portrayal of that endearingly mischievous Dennis the Menace. Probably helped many children learn how to spin their way out of trouble with their parents. Loved it when he guest-starred on Donna Reed and injected some innocent chaos into her carefully proper world.

I used to watch Dennis the Menace on Nickelodeon back in the day. How much of a bad influence he was on kids, I'm not sure but I am sure a few tried a couple antics. Usually at the beginning of the episode, Dennis does something (not shown) and the parents or Mr. Wilson have to run to see what he did, i.e dumping a whole box of detergent in the washing machine.
Solid cast, ashamed what happened to Joseph Kerns, I'm told Metrical had something to do with his death. Gloria Henry (Alice Mitchell) lived into her 90s. I recall Herbert Anderson (Henry Mitchell) being on the 2nd incarnation of Dragnet a few times. Both Mr. Wilson's were good, but Gale Gorden looked more the part, as how Mr. Wilson was drawn in the comic strip. As far as I know, the actress that played Margarat Wade is the only one still alive.
I liked the episode where a hole for a swimming pool was accidentally dug in Mr. Wilson's yard, as someone had changed the street sign pointing the wrong way, hence same house number but wrong street.
There was a certain degree of class in those days in regard to TV shows and to an extent to the world in general. More creative writing, I'm no prude or pearl clutcher but not every joke had to be about sex or a drug reference. Many more people in society had a sense of shame and manners, which reflected a lot of shows at that time. That's a world that is gone, still we need instill in people that there is virtue that acting like a moron, or being trashy should be a source of shame, not something celebrated.
For the show's time, back in 1959-1963 I think it's aged a bit better than some of that era. So godspeed Jay North.
